I for one cared a great deal about the 1995 Major League Baseball season.

 

Sure the die hards will always exist but attendance in 1995 was down 20% and that was only after a partial cancellation of the 94 season

 

I’m more upset the owners convinced hella people it was close we fell for the trap

 

I only said that because the braves won the WS that year lol

 

They’re basically killing the future value of the sport - why would young kids want to watch this sport?

 

I mostly lurk here but I think @Drew Beringer is missing an important factor:

 

yeah the young fans you’re trying to attract now are millennials and Gen Z kids that like unions and hate greedy billionaires, not young boomers and Gen Xers jerking themselves off to Ronald Reagan and union busting lol

There’s definitely an argument to be had for people (including myself) trying to figure out how to support the players in the league without supporting the owners, similar to the conversation the past year or so in the NWSL. But I do believe fans will find a way. I think things will certainly look different moving forward but I do think the change in rhetoric regarding unions is being overlooked here

Well at least there’s still college and minor league games. I feel like this is going to cancel at least 25% of the season.

No I agree with this - I just think if the entire season is canceled it’s gonna be very difficult to retain and make young fans

 

Like I posted after, I think young fans will hang around and even join in but in different ways than we’re used to. I could see a lot of younger/newer fans going all in on their local minor league teams in addition to finding ways to support the MLBPA specifically (buying from licensed merch deals like BreakingT, etc)
