We are talking bsides though. And we are talking about a band that had a history of putting out bsides. And we are talking Jimmy, so it’s not like there aren’t already over 100 songs in their discography people different people would be eager to hear every night at a show.

I’m guessing the band must not think those songs are up to par with the ones that actually made the album and that’s okay!

And they did take the time to record and release a cover of Andrew WK’s Party Hard, so if a producer/engineer takes the time to talk about work on a track (which I forget the name of it), I don’t imagine it sucks (or he wouldn’t have picked that song to discuss).

Lol why would the producer care? They’re getting paid for their time regardless of if the song is released or not

I doubt they aren’t up to par, but could have figured it didn’t fit the album or they wanted to save them for a future release.

Yeah, maybe they’ll use them for the next album. They’ve done it before. Stop was a demo from CTL that they never released because they repurposed it for Invented

The producer didn’t care it was or wasn’t released. It was from a few videos where he talked about what he did on songs to make the album sound awesome. One of those songs used was not released and others were.

I’ll see if I can find the video. I don’t think there’s been a real why to what they did with the leftover songs. Surprised there not more curiosity.

  8. Yeah exactly. Bands do that all the time. I mean, even Blink-182 had written "Degenerate" right after Buddha, but it didn't come out until Dude Ranch.

Happens a lot. Or they just save the songs for import versions (is that still a thing these days?) or they don't think they're good enough in the end. Sometimes songs need to have the finished production before you realize they aren't right, and I'm sure that's happened many times with Jimmy. It is what it is. It's best to just pretend nothing else exists, and then just be surprised when something comes later haha.

Or why release an EP of b-sides from an album cycle they could even properly tour on. I don’t know, but I’m not curious about listening to unreleased JEW material. I’m way more interested in new stuff and I have plenty from them to hold me over in the meantime, plus countless other artists releasing stuff. It’s fine

If bands know there is an interest it may make them change their mind. Andy Hull eventually shared Sinful Math with his Patreon years after.

Holding onto a song seems most likely. I don’t see the problem with wanting them.

I excited to hear they are working on new material. That’s always the priority to me as a fan.

Unreleased Jimmy material is probably better than lots of bands material though. And even though there are lots of good releases right now, there’s always room for this bands material (plus I thought it’d be cool to have during lockdown, although the Phoenix Sessions filled that void for sure).

Releasing something to supplement touring losses (if they were all completed songs) isn’t the worst idea either. That’s what the Phoenix Sessions hopefully did for them though (and I had they do it again eventually).

Static Prevails deserves one. I don't care what everyone else thinks!

I’m sure you and 5 other people would purchase it, but that won’t be enough to make them ever do one for Static Prevails.

  16. I'm happy to pay like $32 to help cover some of the cost haha

I'd be all in for another trilogy of Phoenix Sessions.

Give me Integrity Blues - Bleed American - Chase This Light pretty please.

Top priority is always new music to me. That seems all underway in the studio.

I had Jimmy concert dates cancelled, rescheduled and cancelled again, so the Phoenix Sessions made up for that a bit. Since touring will probably remain back now I could see them touring the heck out of new album whenever it’s done and released. But they could find a way to do a Phoenix Session again at the end of the tour with a new album and any combination of we haven’t heard if they interested and it could still be profitable. I hope they do it when the time is right.

But still mostly pumped for new material (and yes that could include unreleased stuff).

I'm with .K. - I really want to hear the songs they recorded for Surviving that didn't make the cut, and I did think we'd get something like an EP or deluxe before the next album with at least a couple of them.

I don’t think there’s anyone here who doesn’t *want* to hear the songs, people are just saying that the band doesn’t owe them to us.

Big Thief for sure could do this. Probably one of the only bands I know of who could successfully pull this off and not have a single *bad* song on anything released.

Last night was one of the most fun shows I can remember. It was the first time seeing Jimmy Eat World (and Dashboard) and my first concert in 2+ years. Yes they basically played all the classic staples and very little from CTL through Surviving but it was like going back in time hearing so much from Clarity/Bleed American/Futures. Did not expect to hear 4 tracks from Clarity which was awesome. The crowd jumping/singing along to Sweetness and The Middle was fantastic.

They are so tight live and so much fun. My only regret is not seeing them sooner
