how ubiquitous is military equipment? with ukraine getting a bunch of equipment from europe, is it all easy to use, ready to go? any training needed? if you've used a similar thing, you can use whatever thing being sent?

just wonder how that aspect works

Mainly fueled by my listening of the Lions Lead by Donkeys podcast, training is really typically needed for about anything motorized and above though probably some of these man portable rocket systems do need to be trained on (though I think there only a few platforms for each purpose whether surface to air or surface to surface). I have also learned from them that just because you have drove one tank doesn't mean you understand another one. The Battle of Kursk showed this to be the case when it came to the Nazi's.

I agree, only I think that makes him / the situation more dangerous and not less.

I thought I remembered it always being that we would know about 6-8 minutes before that the end was coming if everyone actually launched.

I genuinely do not think the nuke threat is gonna go far. Like damn me if I’m wrong but this REEKS of bluffing that they’re not gonna go through with. Like they’re just gonna end the world over Ukraine? Really?

For now it feels unlikely, but I think there are two scenarios in which the nuclear threat could become real. One is If Putin's ambitions go beyond Ukraine and into the Baltic states or eastern Poland. Those are NATO and EU states, and the US/Europe may be compelled to defend them militarily. If that happens, you're in a real war and who knows how it ends.

The 2nd is if some of our more deranged foreign policy officials decide to use this opportunity to try and foment "regime change" in Russia. If Putin perceives any threat to himself as the leader or Russia, or any threat to the state of Russia itself, things could get ugly fast. I wish this was a remote possibility, but the US can't seem to stop itself from fucking things up in this regard.

Yup those are the two scenarios. Putin isn’t just gonna nuke the world tomorrow morning, but if things continue to spiral? Who knows?

Putin gains nothing from doing it, that’s the part to remember. Like this whole thing relies on the world not helping Ukraine, Ukraine not defending itself, and allowing Russia to control Ukraine outright because they don’t want to get involved. Putin very much fucked up here and him threatening to nuke the world because he didn’t get his way is textbook bluffing. If you couldn’t get your way the first time, why not threaten the world just enough to scare them to back off so THEN you can get your way?

Like I’m not faulting or judging anyone scared right now, I completely understand. That said, Putin is trying bluff his way out of this. Like he’s relying on troops from Belarus (LMFAO) to invade for him. There’s much evidence that suggests he sent an ill-trained and poorly equipped military to invade the country. His country is financially getting jumped like that bad initiation scene in a gang movie. Yeah, he’s desperate and yeah, it could happen but what does he really gain if he does it?

The US loves regime change but they have only done so against countries who are militarily inept to them. I don’t see any advisors convincing our government to basically start a full fledged war with a country with nuclear capabilities.

I think the possibility of an intentional offensive Nuclear Strike is next to nothing.

But if the Russian government misinterprets a conventional weapon as a possible nuke, there's no doubt in my mind that Putin would retaliate in an instant.

I feel like I always kept reading "Putin would never do (blank)", and then he goes and does (blank). I don't really think any of us know what the fuck he is thinking. I would hope widespread use of nuclear weapons is very unlikely still, but it seems a hell of a lot more likely than it did four days ago. My gut says he is bluffing, but my gut said he was bluffing about invading Ukraine too.

I don't hear or read much talk about it, but I could see Putin deploying non-strategic nuclear weapons during this war, and then the US and NATO have to figure out what that means to us and how to respond, similar to how we would have to react if he continues and pushes for the Baltic states or Poland.

I wish I could agree that the possibility of an intentional nuclear strike is next to nothing, but I just do not think it is. What Putin is saying and everything I have read about Russia's nuclear protocols points to the possibilty being greater than next to nothing, as much as I wish that that were not the case.

I do think there is a strong chance Putin's goal here is only Ukraine, and that although the invasion did not achieve victory as quickly as he had hoped / planned, and although they are meeting more and fiercer resistance than he had anticipated, they could still prevail in taking out Ukraine's govt in relatively short time, in the overall grand scheme of timelines of wars.

Not sure if it’s been acknowledged in here but something that’s heavily overlooked during this atrocity is racism towards black people in Ukraine.
Here’s a video with multiple recordings of the treatment black individuals are experiencing
