This is really good. Should be a bigger deal around these parts. “Soft Tyranny” is still my favorite but it’s really solid front to back. Just 9 high quality songs.

the female vocals remind me a ton of Tilly & the Wall. I guess the band even gives me a little bit of Saddle Creek early 00’s vibes. I get the urge to compare to Arcade Fire or Neutral Milk Hotel but this still feels rooted in a different place for me. Maybe a little poppier, a little more emo (not a criticism). The rustic instrumentation is there obvi.

I’m liking this but not loving it but I think it will grow on me. The songs run into each other in my mind and it’s hard to remember what any specific song sounds like except for the singles. Soft Tyranny is definitely my favorite but Dark Morning (Magnetic) is my favorite of the non-singles so far.

I really wish their tour with Caracara was coming close to me. That would be a great show.

  9. i have a thing where i kinda default into the slightest disappointment if after an album comes out the pre-release tracks are still my favorites. that’s the case here but i think those three tunes are just that good. gales of worry basically being an all timer for me at this point.

anyways, very good record and go see them live if you’re at all interested. they were so so so good on sunday

This album is really, really good.

Big Arcade Fire, Why?, Malkmus AC, Sandy G and NMH vibes. (Wow that’s a long RIYL list.)
