I can’t speak to FT or other journalists there, but for ppl who don’t know who to read, I’ve always found Max Seddon to do good work

 

Probably a little too simplistic but I think it covers the basics in a clear straightforward way

 

not fond of standpoint epistemology. that being said we should know how it is to live in a powerful state that menaces others.

 

I didn't really interpret the tweet as an appeal to authority so much as a plea for Americans to keep our dumb feet out of our dumb mouths if we're inclined to comment on things foreign to most of us. Like it's about armchair folks, not American journalists in Ukraine etc.

So the amphibious invasion in Odessa turned out to be ultimately bullshit after all, but it seems like most of the other scariest developments from last night were real. Dogfights over Kyiv over the airport - although not yet captured like some reported - is so fucking surreal. Clashes on the Belorussian border, explosions and troops on the far side of the Dnieper. Doesn't seem to be any of the limited invasion scenarios that were posited. Very scary stuff

 

Social media fact checking is going to be put to the ultimate test. I have no idea what clips and stories on twitter are verified and how to know that. I want everyone to react accordingly to the events actually happening. Its terrifying how easily this could escalate or be undermimed, politically and economically, after a 5 sec bunk twitter post.
