Damn in the wake is so great

 

Good song. It feels familiar in a way.

 

My excitement for this album grows each listen. Glad I’ve had time with the 5 singles. I needed it.

Love this song. Their video are almost always mainly Dave dancing.

 

never listened to them before but checked out the songs released thus far on apple and holy shit they're good. preordered the record.

I've had this for a while now and still have not even remotely wrapped my head around it. absolutely wild record I'm very curious what the reaction to it will be

I find it very hard to imagine anything but universal acclaim honestly. This is a masterpiece

it's such a left turn from everything else they've done I can absolutely see it being super divisive. definitely has some of their best though and some... less good

 

I honestly disagree. I think the new elements blend super, super well with their sound. Like, spirit boy or forebearamce or you in everything could’ve fit really well on gfil. I think tend the garden is probably the biggest left turn. I am curious which songs you think are some of their best and which you’re not huge on—wonder if we agree on either haha

 

I’m very excited for them to shake up the formula. Every song released has been ace

 

the opener, forbearance, unison, man himself and the closing duo are instant classics for me and def up there with their best. really like most of the rest too... and then returner is just chilling there as easily their worst song, I honestly thought it was a joke lmao

plus I think there's a few where the narrative just takes precedence over the actual songwriting and listenability suffers a bit, brothers and kingdom especially come to mind. they're still a good listen and will probably grow with time but I've struggled to fully get into them so far

 

I agree about the best, and returner is definitely the only one I don’t care for. If you took out THAT PART, it would be great. It just ruins the whole thing. I like kingdom but I can see how that and brothers might lose someone’s attention

I've really liked the five songs they've pre-released, so extremely hyped for this.

Angel of 8th Avenue was voted in at 6th for the 2021 Hottest 100 (Australian musicical institution where everyone votes on their favourite songs of the year on the national youth broadcaster's website) and they've got an arena tour planned for winter, to give you an idea of how big they are down under.

 

I was pretty relieved to see angel and man on this year's hottest considering most of the list was... pretty rough lol. makes me happy that a band this good comes from my country

 

Triple J narrowing the shortlist so much that it heavily favours Australian artists is annoying. It's been a steep decline the past couple of years. I listen to a much bigger variety of music now than five years ago, but I find less and less song son their shortlist with each passing year. I get they're an Aus music station whose mission statement is to promote Aus music, but deliberately skewing their own "democratic" shortlist so there's less international acts on there pisses me off.

 

it's been all about the memes for a while frankly. hard to imagine any other explanation for the fucking Wiggles winning in a year when Gang of Youths, Middle Kids, The Beths etc. all released borderline classic songs. it's such a mess

 

I’ve been listening to the 5 singles almost daily for the past few weeks, it’s basically a perfect EP. very excited to hear the whole thing
