I thought it was Haneke's The Piano Teacher and not Campion's The Piano at first, which seemed like a really bizarre first pick lol.

I'm not up on the UHD/4K thing so this doesn't mean much to me, but I do hope those films not yet in the collection get standard blu-ray treatment as well. Would definitely grab the Campion.

 

Can’t go wrong with a PS5. My glorified 4K blu ray player.

 

Love that they’re finally taking the plunge and this group is wonderful to start it off. The Piano is a day one purchase for me. The fact that they’ll be released with standard blu rays is great too.

 

The ‘World of Wong Kar Wai’ box set is $100 at my local Walmart compared to $150 online.

Is this worth a grab?

 

Considering that it’s the same price as when the criterion 50% off sales go active, it’s a question of whether you want to wait a few months for it to go that low again

 

It is. I’ve been working my way through it. If you’re a fan of his stuff it’s pretty remarkable. And the art direction and packaging of the box is really top notch. The Bergman, Varda, Fellini and WKW sets are all great in that regard. I wish some of the earlier box sets got similar treatment. Specifically the Demy, Tati and Cassavetes sets which are kind of cheap stock (though the actual content is great).

 

It should also be $100 in the next flash sale on Criterion’s website if you’d rather support them directly and build up some points toward money off in their store.

Criterion might have scored the rights to the Heisei era of Godzilla films.

There was a double feature of Return of Godzilla (1984) and Godzilla vs Biollante at Alamo Drafthouse last night. Both of them had the Janus Films logo.

 

John Waters’ Pink Flamingos is supposedly dropping this summer

 

Double Indemnity was a huge announcement last week. Can’t wait for that one.


I also know Drive My Car and The Worst Person in the World (as well as The Sound of Metal) are heading to the collection at some point soon.

 

Apparently they cut some out of this and didn’t tell anyone! 2 minutes shorter than previous releases.

 

Assuming the flash sale will be today at noon est


Might sit this one out. Not sure.

 

The only two things I have on my wantlist are Being John Malkovich and Ikiru, so it'd be easy enough.

 

I always have to go for at least 3 to get the free shipping.

 

Is it through Criterion's site or B&N? With B&N I usually just order online and pickup in store.

 

Criterion’s site. No notice yet though about the sale so idk what’s going on. It usually on a Tuesday in Feb.


B&N sales are usually in July and Nov.

I watched my copy of Some Like it Hot the other night, incredible comedy. Deep Cover was one I picked up last year that I thought was fantastic (90’s cop blaxploitation)


I’d also recommend the 2 I picked up. The Killing and Pickup on South Street. Both great takes on crime/noir.
