    I would agree with you

  2. yeah GZ is infamously shit lol. I know a lot of the "old heads" on the vmp subreddit were talking about cancelling a track (I think classics?) when they switched it to the gz plant recently

yeah beyond just the surface noise I was also disappointed with the general tone of the eco pressing. that seemed better with the vmp one, at least to the point I didn't notice it

maybe we need to get an engineer in here or something lol because I ***swear*** that Adrianne's vocals are distorted/clipping at least at places on side A in the eco where they aren't on the VMP. I also don't understand how that's possible but I'm sure of it. most notable on "change"

Well I just ordered a plain black so ill report back on that one as well lol

I have the same clipping issues on my eco variant

“Change” was definitely the biggest offender. Was borderline unlistenable imo.

www.needlesandgrooves.com is where all of us went when they dissolved the VMP board. It’s a really great forum with lots of people who know what they’re talking about. I’ve kind of stopped going there since I cancelled VMP about a year ago (I drop in once and awhile). VMP got prohibitively expensive very fast and I couldn’t justify it anymore, especially with all the QC issues every month.

My copy came last night and I ordered the standard black one so I’ll listen today.

Yeah I really like Sprained Ankle, but her last two albums haven’t been consistent imo. Still great songs on both.

I have tried to listen to the whole thing. But it's too long and the most of it sounds kind of boring.

To each their own but this is one lengthier album that truly feels worth it's length. There also is soooo much going on in the songs here it's hard to fathom someone thinking it's boring, but like I said, to each their own hah.

Yeah, I totally get that other people enjoy this album. I want to believe and hope that I will like this as much as their previous records. Probably around summer :)

    Got a light?

I thought some of it was great, some good.. until I smoked a ton and listened reading along with the lyrics with good quality headphones and the question of it living up to its hype was erased at That moment

At some point I’d revisit it in halves. The track list and stuff isn’t super overt about it being 2 ten song albums the way a Being There or Mellon Collie does, but it definitely works in that context imo and might be a little less daunting if too boring for its runtime is your main issue.

  15. Someday I want there to be a "four corners" reissue of this where we get an albums worth of recordings from each of the sessions. But who knows maybe some of that stuff is already being worked into the next record

This is probably the most I've ever believed rumors of another album coming same year. We know there's ~23 more songs from those sessions alone + that live one they wrote later that everyone likes. And each of them thought there were multiple impossible cuts. I'm not getting my hopes up too high because it would be crazy, but it wouldn't completely shock me either.

I’d settle for a deluxe with a couple bonus tracks, it’d make more sense to start with new songs and new sessions for the next album but I would like to hear some of what didn’t make it.

Here's a relevant interview that came out this week.

Big Thief Stay True To Their Roots - Northern Transmissions

NT: I understand that you had 45 songs recorded for this, and you had to pare it down to 20. What kept those other 25 out?

James: I think what really kept them out, in the end, was just this feeling that, regardless of how many songs the record was gonna be, there’s only so much music that we felt it made sense to take in of us before you start going cross-eyed and “enough Big Thief” kind of feeling. It kind of felt like a double album was sort of the maximum of that. Not even for trying to put ourselves in other people’s shoes but just for ourselves, of listening to a sequence. It became pretty clear early on, “This shouldn’t be a triple album. I can’t listen to that much music, and I’m in the band.”

It sort of seemed like the right length for the scope of the project. But then, like, in terms of what made it and didn’t make it, it was just sort of trial and error. And we were all making sequences and our friends were making sequences. And eventually, in the end, a lot of really amazing ones got left off. We each had our own little favorites that didn’t make it. It kind of felt like the right amount and the right stuff.

NT: Will the song that didn’t make the album appear elsewhere?

JK: I’m sure that they’ll see the light of day at some point, sooner rather than later. We’ve talked a bit about not wanting to be like 70, and [old man voice] “Putting out the archives!” It just feels different in this day and age, and why not just have it all out there? For us, it’s a matter of balancing that feeling of “Get it all out there. Who cares?” versus “There’s such a lack of focus that we want to put something in front of people that has a lot of intention in it.”

They haven't released the 'archives' from their previous 4 albums yet but I think they'll put out another album from the Dragon sessions within the next year or so
