Really excited for this album, and it's coming out the day of my law school graduation. What a gift. I really like the new song. Dan's vocals continue to be a highlight of this band as well.

Pre-orders available through their website here: Real Friends.

They just can't really write a chorus

You don't like this one? I don't know, I've always thought they had pretty strong choruses. I think the only song of theirs where the chorus, for me, was just odd was on "Cover You Up." That one feels like it's building to something great and then just ends abruptly; it always left me feeling unfulfilled. Other than that, I've enjoyed them. Some have been ridiculously catchy, even. "Late Nights In My Car" is the prime example but there have been other great ones. "Spread Me All Over Illinois" and "I Think I'm Moving Forward" were the two standout songs from their last full length, in my opinion, and had some great choruses.

Although, to be fair, that's keeping in mind when I say "great," I mean "catchy pop-punk choruses that get stuck in my head." This song's chorus definitely fulfills that for me. Especially when they add on to it during the second one.

his voice sounds better, i agree, but it also goes through a few different styles in just one song. from this song, it still feels like they haven't found a sound of their own yet.

I'm really enjoying the song. The chorus is a little awkward at times, but overall a good song.

I think this a big step up from a lot of their previous work. Dan's voice sounds great. I don't get how you can say they don't know how to write a chorus. I've heard people say that about them before. Care to explain?

Liked this a lot more than any of their previous material. Interesting that it's the last song on the album.

  8. I would agree that this sounds just like stuff from a couple years back (it's basically a Suburbia b-side) but I found the chorus to be quite catchy with a nicer flow to it than RF usually puts in their choruses. Lyrics were no longer cringeworthy either.

i like the guitar in this song, but other than that it doesn't do too much for me. i'm hopeful that the next single will be very good.

Lyrics seem a big step up, and this seems a bit of a new sound for them. I'm a bit more hyped for the album if it won't all be quite so sad-sack white boy lyrics.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

Enjoy the direction they seem to be taking, interesting that the album closer is the first single.

  12. This sounds like a pretty big improvement from the last record. Not sure how I'll feel about that song as the closing track, but I guess I need to hear it in the context of the album.

Revisited their last record this morning. Such a huge improvement. Evetts has to be one of my favorite producers.

Can't wait to listen to this track after work today. Glad people are saying the lyrics are a big step up. Thought the lyrics on their first LP were rough. I almost missed the sleepy eyes and bony knees.

I never got around to their full-length but I sure loved those EPs on long summer drives. I can get down with this.

I was also surprised it was the last song. I'm almost a little disappointed about that because it doesn't sound like a record-closing song. Although, I tend to get disappointed when bands don't have epic closing numbers, most likely from growing up on Taking Back Sunday and Jimmy Eat World albums.

Never understood the hate for this band. I actively dislike pop punk and think they're pretty great. Really cool song.

The song grew on me after a couple of listens and now I love it! Pre-ordered the LP.

  21. I really liked them at the onset but what slowly turned me off of them (I still listened but just 'cause it was catchy) was how atrocious their lyrics became/continued to be, combined with the fact that they weren't doing anything that The Wonder Years, Transit, Polar Bear Club, etc. hadn't already done before, nor are they the best band doing it now (Knuckle Puck is way more innovative with the same sound). This song fixes the lyrical issues without pushing the sound in a new direction, so it's a small step up.

Love "23" from Jimmy Eat World as an album closer. Also "Several Ways To Die Trying" from Dashboard Confessional.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I own all of their other releases on vinyl, but I just can't pull the trigger on pre-ordering this one. I think I have lost a lot of interest in them unfortunately. I do like the new song, though.

    ooof.. that artwork is bad.

this song is a huge step up for them. this has potential to be a solid pop-punk album

The artwork actually reminds me a lot of Midtown and the Early November, it's not really that "good" but I think it's neat because it's kind of nostalgic
