Not heard much from Big Thief before this, but wow, what an album, feels like an instant classic. Can't wait to go through their previous records!

  2. "Time Escaping," "Sparrow," or "Little Things" definitely my favorites. Just absolute all timer incredible accomplishments of songs

  3. Honestly "Heavy Bend" is on that tier too but its just a lil cute babby vignette

  4. so there is an alternate version of the title track and another new song as Japanese bonus tracks

actually he's an obnoxious dumbass and always has been imo!!!! just enjoy the fucking big thief record, who gives a shit if a 1975 fan thinks a band skating adeptly through multiple dimensions of themselves is kinda like what 1975 records do

    in other words fuck off!

guy thought the most interesting thing he could possibly say about this record is that it will be "passed down through generations like yankee hotel foxtrot," he is a huge embarrassment and one of the most banal writers alive

  9. It's very hard to argue that it's not more fun to mock the 1975 than it is to defend them. That's my only opinion here

I don’t find the ppl who relentlessly shit on The 1975 engage with their work in good faith, usually. just in my experience.

  11. This is dumb as hell and why is it happening in this thread

That 1975 record is fine but tedious. This one is better but sure I can see why someone would make a strained comparison I guess. Can we not

but that record is kind of a perfect comparison both sonically at times and also as the mid(?) career level up in the bands’ respective careers

if I gave my opinion on big thief I would probably be banned from the website. meanwhile I wouldn’t be alive without the 1975. hard to say where I fall in the discourse but big thanks to whoever needlessly brought all this dumb shit up!

  14. used to love the 1975 but can't stand them now

    (thanks Matty)

was lukewarm on Big Thief and love them now

that's my contribution, gonna continue going back through BT's catalogue OK byeeeee

I think they’re ostensibly similar in some ways and it’s a fair comparison to draw? I don’t see anybody saying they’re of equal quality, I mean I am one of the biggest 1975 fans on this site, I would say, and NOACF is my second fav by them but even I think this is the better album. they’re both “everything but the kitchen sink” style double albums that not many bands really bother dabbling in. I think it’s just weird that the mere mention of The 1975, especially when they’re being compared to a more Well Respected™ band drives ppl to act obnoxiously like they’re the worst band to ever do it. I’ve had pleasant discussions with people who aren’t into the band before, productive even, so it’s not that I think disliking them is a problem, I just think there are some people who make a whole ass personality out of it and take every opportunity they can to condescend to fans and it’s kinda exhausting. I personally think the comparison to Notes is less lazy and obvious than, say, the White Album comparison that’s mentioned in nearly every review I have seen of the record.

this is much more Tusk than White Album imo

  18. I don't fuck with them anymore but like, this is similar in scope to ILIWYS and just as consistent imo. can't deny that album is a monster.

Idk, this album is more Stadium Arcadium than White Album or Notes.

jk, I haven’t read any reviews of this album, but I assume some writers are simply trying to latch on to any meaningful double album that has an eclectic bunch of songs and comparing it to that

someone posted the japanese bonus tracks on their subreddit. haven’t had a chance to really listen but skimmed the title track out of curiosity and can confirm it is not the heavy version. still sounds like a really cool rendition nonetheless

Heavy version is good but I think I prefer the studio version

has that unique spacey ethereal feeling a lot of the best bt songs do

but I didn’t hear the live version till after so that’s maybe part of it

(they should still free the heavy version)

I agree studio version was the right pick for the album. the soundscape of it is a stroke of absolute genius.

I feel like there’s a good chance we’ll hear all the versions someday.
