His goal is to stop NATO expansion. If this intimidates NATO from expanding eastwards then yeah i think it's a win for him, it's dumb and it'll come at a tremendous cost but it'll be a win in his eyes.

I believe the chance of Ukraine ever joining NATO is pretty much dead after this, but there is talk now of support for Finland and Sweden joining NATO being at an all time high right now, so yeah this is probably going to backfire for him overall.

Yeah it's having the exact opposite effect of him wanting to stop/weaken NATO; it's only going to make the alliance more united. They're only going to arm the eastern front even more, providing more weapons/tech/support to those in the region. And like you mention with Finland, they might now join too because of all this. The west/NATO has been pretty firm so far in saying that if Ukraine wants to join one day, they have every right now, so that's a non-negotiable point in these discussions. So really, I don't see Putin getting any single thing out of this
