Would you consider this a good "headphones album"? Assuming you've listened with both speakers and headphones. Were there more subtleties that you picked up with headphones?

Don't forget no one's favorite band, Three Doors Down.

Three Doors Down are a soccer mom/butt rock hybrid.

Although you all nailed prettymuch every other option on there - it's not a bad thing per se, I still enjoy stuff by Matchbox 20, BNL, Lifehouse, etc. Just nowhere near the depth that JEW brings to their writing/execution.

I'm pretty sure I've thought The Fray and OneRepublic were the same band for years now.

I honestly can't wait for people to hear You Are Free on the album. That song and Sure And Certain have become instant top 5 Jimmy Eat World songs for me.

My band covered it once, and we did not nail it. I honestly quite prefer Cable Car.

Just went from 6 to midnight.

I need to get over my TBS high before I can focus on this one. Listened to 2 new songs (One was definitely Sure and Certain can't remember the name of the other) but they sounded good.

I still dont feel i dedicated enough time to the last 2 JEW records.

I mean I think the main issue is that you're devoting more time to listening to Taking Back Sunday than Jimmy Eat World...

One of my favorite bands, and that song is great, but it was definitely the start of the "songs that almost sound like they were written by a church band" era of GGD (see: "Better Days," "As I Am," "Flood," many others).

God damn though, I just listened again, and his voice is unbelievable. I cringe when GGD get lumped in with bands like Lifehouse, Train, The Fray, etc.. The 4-album run from A Boy Named Goo to Gutterflower is pop-rock perfection and stands well above anything those bands have produced. They also seem to have influenced a lot of the bands talked about on here (e.g. Moving Mountains, The Dangerous Summer, Beach Slang), though it's not always recognized/discussed.

Perhaps I am being too hard on Goo Goo Dolls, because you're pretty spot on about that - their high points are pretty damn high. Black Balloon, Slide, Iris, Acoustic #3, Big Machine - god damn.

Goo Goo Dolls are great. The only one of their albums that doesn't really have any redeeming qualities is the latest one.

Ooooooooo. Yea, Sure And Certain wouldn't be top 5 all time for my by a long shot. I mean, it's a solid tune and all but... now I wonder how I'll feel about You Are Free.

Dizzy Up The Girl is a great album.

I saw Augustana open up for Goo Goo Dolls a loong time ago. It was an awesome show.

Sure and Certain might be a top 5 JEW single for me, I don't know if it will ever crack the overall for me though.

Yep. Though the lyrics have been consistently bad for a while now.

Suppose this is a good time to share a playlist of the best GGD songs most people haven't heard, and then to stop derailing the JEW thread.

Not gonna lie, I fear I may have been sleeping on A Boy Named Goo for way too long. 3 tracks in and this is excellent music. I'm not past Rzeznik's shitty Bon Jovi cut but its a start.

Sure and Certain is the most immediate JEW song I've heard since Here It Goes. We'll see if it has the staying power to remain a personal classic, but it's got me beyond jacked for Integrity Blues.

It's a good day if I convince someone to reconsider the Goo Goo Dolls. If you like that, you should also check out Superstar Car Wash. I skip all of the songs sung by Robby Takac (the bassist), though they're all worth at least one listen in context.
