Maybe a stupid question, but has anyone come across any research discussing whether or not one COVID positive individual can make another COVID positive individual sicker?

I ask because my wife's symptoms, while not severe, as far worse than mine. She continues to cough, sneeze, blow her nose, etc. while I only have mild congestion. Is it possible for her to raise my viral load and, in effect, make me sicker?

 

Not a stupid question at all. I do not have a definitive answer for you about this. My somewhat informed opinion is that, if you assume you've both been infected with the same variant, it is hitting her differently and harder but her condition cannot make you sicker. I suppose there's a remote chance she could make you sicker if somehow you've both been infected with different variants, but again, I'm not positive and that seems failry unlikely. The curveball is, she could potentially have something else on top of covid making her sicker than you, like the flu or some other viral thing, and you may be able to catch that from her.

I don't think this is a stupid question at all, and these types of things are sure to keep coming up if we as a country have just decided we're done trying to deal with this thing even a little bit and just let it fucking rip.
