Fourth of July, Wilson, or Bishops Knife Trick for me.

Edit: The Last of the Real Ones too. That one had potential to be a big single.

This thread's resurrection has caused me to throw on SRAR.

Without a doubt, the reunion / album announcement / song drop was one of my top 5 favorite music moments. My Songs still fucking rips and that day was pure elation.

I was just thinking about the reunion today. Zach's confirmation that they were getting back together and that whole moment was something else.

AB/AP was a fun workout album a while back. Haven't put it on in a while but it gives me loner in a new city vibes cause it came out while... wait for it... I was living alone in a new city and had no friends or life.

The reunion show in NYC that was announced like two days beforehand out of nowhere was hands down the greatest show of my life. Top tier FOB setlist and only $20 in a tiny ass venue. I wish I could go back.

Yeah but are we really going to go off YouTube views as a benchmark for quality? It’s undeniable that FOB is bigger now than they were before and by going way more pop and actually getting placement in film & tv - they’ve reached a whole new audience too so I’m not surprised to see IDC pale in comparison when it comes to YouTube views.

Also, not surprising since Folie wasn’t even a popular album compared to the rest of their discography. Pretty sure it undersold vs expectations sadly.

The post-hiatus songs I actually enjoy:

    My Songs..
    Young Volcanos
    Jet Pack Blues
    Novocaine
    Twin Skeletons

I actually can’t stand M A N I A at all aside from Wilson but even that track isn’t that strong to me. I’m sure I’m in the minority here.

  11. My argument isn’t objective quality, it’s a subjective one by looking at their fans as a whole and seeing what the fan base is into and enjoys. And people found it not only interesting, but they loved it. (Also there were the versions of this exact take that hated iDC when it came out and called it shallow fame grab etc.) Did they make good career moves to continually expand and elongate their career with an evolution of sound? The answer is obviously yes. You not liking it, is fine, you’re just the vast minority. I think that’s worth looking at since I’ve seen this same cycle repeat for like two decades now.

Wouldn’t call me the “vast minority”. Maybe on this site but not as a whole. I know I’m not the majority but I’ve seen plenty of people miss/prefer the “old sound”.

You’re right though - the moves they made did elongate their career and like I said: it’s undeniable that they’re bigger than ever so it makes sense with the views for sure.

  13. These two paragraphs seem very contradictory. :-p

Their fan base is huge. You can know THOUSANDS of people who all long for a return to their old sound and you all could still be in the vast minority.

Ehhh I think it’s much more than THOUSANDSSSS who long for a return to their old sound so I wouldn’t label as vast… but whatever (not being passive aggressive - I truly mean it lol)

  16. I don’t even know what I’d want them to play with next. I feel like Patrick’s current stuff still feels very big and theatrical. But I love stuff like “Phoenix” where he is going faster and a little more edge to it. Curious to see what they do, or if they do anything, but I’ve really liked it all. And still enjoy “Hands Up” and would be into more of that direction too.

  17. I truly don’t think a FUCT sounding album would sell or be a hit at all in 2022 to be honest. It’s not what the genre sounds like and more.

  18. I honestly would love more stuff in the vein of his solo album, whatever it is in solo form again or repurposed as Fall Out Boy.

I always thought it would be cool if What a Catch was the second to last song on FAD and then the closer was Coffee's for Closers

I would sell my soul to see them play that album front to back.

I know I’ve been going on about Folié but I think that record perfectly married their pop sensibilities while keeping a little of their older sound in place so I would kill for another record in that vein.
