was not ready for this band to just fully creepy me out with "Blurred View" but I love it

    also: THAT'S MY GRANDMA

yeah, this is very very good of course. there's some stuff I'm thinking may hold it back from topping Two Hands for me, but not by a lot and might dissipate on repeated listens anyway. but like 15 of these 20 tracks are borderline classics which is a staggering achievement in its own right

Floored after my first listen. Way looser and funnier than anything else they’ve put out, with still plenty of menacing moments that their past records had that drew me into this band. Lyrically it’s phenomenal, and it is wild to me that the style can vary so much from track to track while remaining cohesive. Think that Wake Me Up to Drive is my favorite after first listen. Only complaint is that Once a Bunch of Times didn’t get on here.

I think “The Only Place” might end up being my favorite song on this entire thing. The finger picking, beautiful lyrics, beautiful song.

  7. also, despite my doubts they nailed it with the version of the title track included here. I do really really hope a studio recording of the heavy version sees the light of day sooner rather than later but the version on here is perfect

ehh honestly I think that song had classic potential but the production kneecaps it. sounds like someone recorded the song off a computer with their phone speaker and put it on the album lol

I've seen a few people liking that actually, you're definitely not alone. just doesn't do it for me (still wouldn't call it a weak point on here though)

That Hyden review put such a big smile on my face. He's not one to hyperbolize even when it comes to albums he loves like War on Drugs etc, so reading this was pretty shocking:

"I’ve had a promo of Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You for a few months, and it already feels like the kind of album that’s destined to be handed down from generation to generation, like Automatic For The People or Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. It’s music I know I will reach for on epic road trips or in the midst of profound grief. An all-timer. A masterpiece. They really did it this time."

This really is an incredible achievement. I didn't listen to the singles much, wasn't familiar with the live versions of the songs, so this album feels like a gigantic incredible world I'm gonna be getting lost in for months on end.

    That’s a great Hyden review.

my wife and I do this little gratitude book each night to help us stay grounded and appreciate the things we have. I forget the prompt but one of my answers last night was definitely Adrianne and this band. I think Steve’s last paragraph in his review sums up why perfectly. This band makes me want to slow time down. Sit. Think. Love. Laugh. Look around in awe. Be a better dad. A better husband. A better friend. A better stranger. Just a better person. I’m not sure any band has ever had that specific of an impact on me.

I finally scoped some live stuff last night and tbh I like the title track much more in it's album form. Rock version is a great alternate but you honestly could not have better production choices for a song built around the phrase "it's a little bit magic" than exactly how the studio version sounds.

Separate thought, but I kind of didn't care for Sparrow when the first singles dropped and it clicked pretty hard when I saw AL solo and further still in context on the album. In hindsight they picked the strangest two songs for a first impression here but they kind of balanced each other out perfectly in terms of implying what was to come with the other 18.

Agreed about “Sparrow”. Within the context of the album it truly shines.

Are there vocal overdubs towards the end of "Sparrow" that weren't always there or am I just noticing them now? Regardless I agree with what others have said about that song. It's a much needed deep breath in the middle of the record

  22. so uh

I was tipped off about them being great live

    and uh

I have a ticket to their Dublin show in two weeks which I thought was sold out

They are incredible live. The show I saw at the Ryman some months back is one of the four or five best shows I've ever seen.
