i will hear no slander against imposter syndrome

 

just feels like i was widely ignored/dismissed when i said WELL BALANCED AND COMPLETE LISTENING EXPERIENCES ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE MEDIUM OF THE EP and then they went and released TWO!!! count em TWO EP's that are balanced and complete listening experiences, so i feel vindicated, sorry for bringing it up again

 

I really like Imposter, def overplayed it after the BSN live reveal.

 

I think Imposter Syndrome is the best song of the two EPs

The vocal performance on Late Nap, is one of my favorites that Anthony has ever produced.

Late Nap is unbelievable

 

I really hate being this person, but I think I’m in the minority when it comes to some of these tracks, particularly the more synth heavy songs like Late Nap and Electric Moose. The synth sounds on these two particular tracks come off as really cheap and remind me of some of the patches that come with synths or digital studios.

ADAL is superior overall, but the peaks on ADAD are greater (Buzzhenge, Curitiba, psychic readings). I’m all for them experimenting because besides the two aforementioned tracks, I think this is some of their strongest material to date.

 

Do not hate to be someone that does not enjoy something. That is okay.

 

yeah idk if you saw but I mentioned this also. room for them to improve next time. I do love Late Nap though.

 

I don't mind that it sounds like some standard patches at times, it's still complex as heck and definitely sounds like that on purpose. It's not like they couldn't afford any vintage gear. It could sound like the 80's Prince of Persia game soundtrack and still it's the idea that stands behind it that counts more to me.

 

i don't really know anything about synth patches but the electronic elements of those tracks are dissonant in the right way

 

i mean yeah i would put money on the fact they are using analog synthesizers and not plug ins here, so the patches might sound like stuff youve heard a million times but i definitely feel theyve got that analog warmth in them that you just dont get from a plug in (i have made hundreds of electronic tracks in my life with digital synths, not shitting on it at all, just saying you can tell when something is analog and these are analog synths)

 

nothing wrong with digital synths either

anyhow those 2 specific patches in question, esp Late Nap - theres no variance to the stabs. its the same idea as recording a drum loop with single samples. the ear tends to find that inorganic after so many bars.

 

now i wanna know what synths they have bc im a big nerd! during the bsn stream they had keith out there with a vintage juno and something else i cant remember.

 

yeah but with late nap in particular other elements are added on top and sprinkled in that come in and out which pushes the song forward. its a pretty common songwriting/production technique to make one loop that repeats and make an entire song around it by adding and subtracting while that one element never changes. jimmy eat world did it with the chord progression on "surviving" which doesnt change once but with the structure of the song it seems like much more than it actually is. i feel similarly about the synth loop on late nap.

the bass tone in discount sounds exactly like the bass in another circa song but i cant place it right now. but its fucking incredible.

 

I was literally thinking the same thing on my drive home today. I can't quite figure out which song though. The Hex is the closest I've been able to guess but I don't know if that's quite right.

 

its similar to the pitched guitar line in the opening of metanoia

I like these EPs more every day. Sleep Well got me good today when I was walking the pooch

 

that moment at 3:20 with the wind chimes / xylophone / descending piano line into the vengeful god lyrics is so fucking good
