I've got some pretty shitty takes sometimes. I just feel like there's been little to no development with the character. Maybe that's another shitty take and I'm just an idiot though.

I don't think you're an idiot, but to me the core of this show (or at least Rue's story on this show) is drug addiction, and to reduce it to "she needs to get clean or die" is missing the point of her story in my opinion. As far as character development, I think the holiday episode was pretty big in that regard, but now she's in a backslide that's being pushed along by her new friend Elliot and her relationship with Jules. Ali and the waitress made a point of saying she can't focus on getting clean while she's in a relationship, and that's what we're seeing play out.

This episode seemed to be a turning point, so let's see how it plays out from here.

I do have a feeling that they're foreshadowing Ali relapsing and dying and I would be so fucking sad if that happened

It is striking that we've made it through a season and a half of a drama and only seen one named character die, so I understand the anxiety, but I don't think they'll kill off Rue any time soon. She's too iconic of a character, and losing Zendaya would be a pretty big loss to the project.

However, long term, I wouldn't be surprised if Rue's character has been planned to eventually die from the series' conception. The imagery from the Halloween episode of Rue dressing as Romeo, and then again being Jack in Titanic the last episode does seem to foreshadow her death. Especially combined with her saying that the audience shouldn't expect hope from her story, and telling Ali she isn't planning on being around long.

TL;DR I don't think Rue will be written out of the show, but if she dies at the series' conclusion, it wouldn't be shocking.

A note from Zendaya re: Rue's story arc this season.

Have very bad PTSD (I think? or similar) from a former injury and having to take morphine, so had to look away with sound off for that entire scene. But holy fuck that open.

I was wrong. This episode was one of the best of the series. I second that Zendaya deserves all of the awards.

I really wish they didn’t have that goofy police chase scene. It took me out of the episode for a little.

I'm actually terrified of what Nate's gonna do now that he knows Maddy is coming for his neck. I'm worried she's gonna overplay her hand trying to get revenge, and accidentally get herself or Cassie killed.

In the Episode 6 teaser you can see someone matching Nate's description holding a gun and then see the same gun in a carseat with Cal's disc, which makes me think someone's getting shot.

Well that was the 2nd best intervention scene in television history, only topped by Christopher's intervention in the Sopranos.

Zendaya must have been so exhausted after filming this episode, both physically and mentally. She was absolutely incredible

The whole episode was extremely captivating, this show knows how to be really fucking good when it wants to be
