If you want to hear this, and are cool with leaks, send me a message and I’ll give you an early gift that I just received in my Reddit inbox

(I presume we have all either pre-ordered this or are supporting the band momentarily in other ways)

This album is outstanding. I think it might be my favorite Big Thief album already.

Going through this now and wow.

“Wake Me Up to Drive” is so fantastic. So different from the live version they played (the live version is a more propulsive romp, but this muted version with the drum machine is hypnotic, already obsessed with it).

“Flower of Blood” and “Blurred Vision” should surely satisfy any fans that love the darker and grungier side of the band.

Very into “Red Moon” and “Dried Roses”, which are very faithful to their wonderful live versions.

can’t wait to finish it up.

“The Only Place” and “Blue Lightning” to end the record. Woooo boy.

on first listen, it’s really stunning. I’m really looking forward to all the songs falling within the same playing field after a few months of spending time with the new ones and having the album coalesce as one. But there’s a bounty of incredible music here.

I’m actually quite glad I’m very familiar with 8 songs already. Gives me a head start to really dig in to the other 12.

more scattered thoughts after living w the record for a few days:

p sure this is their best record to me now and the album I always hoped they'd make

not to say the previous albums aren't all incredible but this is big thief at maximum big thief

the songwriting is so assured and the band interplay is so in sync that they're able to nail whatever idea they're fascinated w at that moment

I've always been a sucker for a sprawling-throw everything at the wall type double LP from a band operating at the peak of their powers but I couldn't be more thrilled with what they gave us here

the guitar tone on "simulation swarm" reminds me of fleetwood mac's "the ledge"

    shit rocks

I hope this album exposes them to more people, both on here and I’m general.

This band should be as big as like Blink-182 on here because they’re easily one of the best and most prolific bands talked about on this forum but don’t get the same recognition.

Im excited for more folks to here this though and more discussion about how excellent this record is.

Allegedly this is floating around out there. I feel like there’s more buzz on this album than their past records.

The run from “Change” to “Blue Lightning” is remarkable.

I mean, 300+ posts before the album drops ain't to shabby. They're the best band currently making music so they deserve more than anyone else but the blink 182 comparison isn't gonna happen.

for them to have sure fire live banger versions of “Dragon” and “Wake Me Up to Drive” and then completely rework them into these beautiful experiments for the album (or Vice versa). Nothing but respect for this band.

I hope they expand the outro of “Blue Lightning” live. A massive crowd sing a long of “I wanna live forever till I die” sounds pretty great.

finally hitting play on this, one of the most agonising waits to hear an album I've ever experienced lol

I don't think I can talk about this without hyperbolizing but unless we're prioritizing a tight edit (which is totally reasonable imo) I think it feels like one of those 'band taking big leap forward' albums talked about in the 99 thread. Kind of ridiculous given the quality of the first four but what an amazing first listen haha

not sure about "Spud Infinity" yet if I'm being perfectly honest lmao. think that one will take a few listens to sink in? production-wise... some odd choices there

"Certainty" is still so good, one of my favourites of the singles

I think bloodbuzz ohio was when I finally learned the lesson videotape tried to teach me about getting attached to live versions in advance of an album. Truly sucks when that happens, I'm glad my only exposure to these songs was seeing Adrianne a few months ago.

yeah really glad I didn't listen to any live versions of these songs before release. everything after "Little Things" is gonna be totally new to me, so excited
