My record arrived today! Despite having high hopes for this record, it definitely wasn't one of my favorites by her. Lyrics are stellar though (no surprise there) and I loved how the closer had more of a country-esque sound to it. As a whole, I could definitely see songs from this album soundtracking John Hughes movies (if this album were around back then!) but I really, really, really wish this had taken more of a country turn. It would've been fun to hear a lot of these songs take on a more wistful, yearning type of sound too.

I’m still very interested in this record but I feel like I’ve had to try to get excited about it, and it just isn’t there for me this time.

I felt that way at first but the last month or so I've really gotten into the singles. I think all 4 are pretty great so I'm still stoked for this

The reviews I’ve seen so far are kind of just meh. I’m still very excited, but at this point I’m not expecting it to be my new favorite Mitski or anything like that

I love the singles, still very excited. I didn’t think she’d top BTC regardless.

I've only listened to WFTK and The Only Heartbreaker which I love, I'm going to hold out on the other singles until Friday.

I’m excited for this, everything I’ve heard and seen - roll out, artwork, songs, videos, etc. have all been as good as anything else she’s done imo

  11. the album to me is interesting and I think I like it quite a bit. to me it is a smaller ordeal than the last two were in spite of the aesthetic and the kind of pop oriented moments. for something that seems to have been made under pressure in some way, it doesn't feel like it's trying to prove much and I kinda like that. I like the couple of languid songs on here like "everyone" and I like how songs like "that's our lamp" kind of dissipate into the mist before they really take off

  12. I do get how this could hit someone as nothing special. It feels like a transitional album to me, which I always think are interesting and fun even if they're not as monumental as the records on either side

Everything I have heard so far is putting me in AOTY territory. There’s no way I don’t love this.

Ok I think this is really good after one listen. “Should’ve been me” was the standout. Excited to dive more in tomorrow.

I had a feeling this wasn't going to get BNM based on initial reviews and also I feel they are giving it to Cate Le Bon and Big Thief

BCNR (I hope)(but also probably Cate le Bon)

  19. I have seen a few people call this like “scattered” or something to that effect which I just don’t really read at all—if anything I see it as kind of locked into a set of tools that does make it feel unified
