Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

I do like a good color pressing as much as the next person but I do wish most artists had the means to have standard black vinyl somewhat consistently available. It would definitely help with bs price gouging/scalpers in the secondary market.

Yeah, this is the way to go. Probably harder to do now than it was in the early 2010s, but it was nice knowing those records were always out there and not super hard to find.

They fixed your brain when you were young.

Re: City and Color, something also kind of weird was the shipping on the black was more than the colored variant. I had the colored in my cart, which sold out before I could buy, but the total with shipping was ~30 something. For the black variant, it was ~40 something to get it shipped. I pulled the trigger because I was feeling the pressure after the colored variant sold out in less than a minute, but I would have probably paused longer to consider if it hadn't been pandemonium.

  4. Exactly, I was shocked when I got back into vinyl last year after being out on it since 2013-14 that back catalogs are not guaranteed to have some records available. For a lot of fairly popular artists it seems like it's hard to get even just a copy on vinyl of a few releases back if that makes sense.

For example, it's my least favorite My Morning Jacket record but I'm just missing Circuital from 2011 and I'll have all their major releases absent a few obscure EPs/splits. But it's sold out just about everywhere and I'm just not willing to pay a bunch for a used copy of a record I don't even love that much haha

Even some of the Taylor Swift records are apparently hard to find now! Just wild that some of these albums aren't more widely available after not that many years.

Obviously right now is a weird time for plants, supply chains, and logistics teams not just related to vinyl. So it’s understandable to not be able to get certain albums right now. But once things smooth out I would like to see more bands ask their labels to stock their records with standard variants. I’m all about making unique presses, releases, packaging and variants, but if you just want an album on vinyl you should be able to get it as well.

One of the things I've been surprised about lately is that, if bands/labels are going to go through all the trouble of getting something pressed, that they're doing these tiny limited runs. Like, the Forget and Not Slow Down pressing was limited to 400 copies, and that album has been out of print for a few solid years. And then they let customers buy up to five copies! Just makes zero sense how some of this has been approached to me.

I feel fortunate that I got a copy of this beauty, though.

Not sure what else he can do for it. The cloth-bound book is one of my favorite pieces in my collection.
