This was my thought. Rue is literally best friends with Fez who runs a corner store lol.

The episode was clearly supposed to be anxiety inducing and I enjoyed it but there were definitely story elements they were just lazy about.

Also the editing choices were pretty bad.

    My Takeaways from S2E4
-Rue's "faking it" made me laugh so hard I had to pause the episode
-Lexi's casting scene was also super funny
-The Nate/Cassie fight scene my favorite dialogue of the entire season so far, Sydney's acting was fucking amazing.
-Drunk Cal is so much more tolerable than Sober Cal, which is says a lot about Sober Cal, cause Drunk Cal's still a fucking lunatic
-The Ru-les-iot relationship is really my favorite part of the show, and I hope it leads to some decent poly representation and isn't just teased in perpetuity.
-I concur with the "for a white claw?" take, lmaoooo, Elliot's a fucking dick.
-Drunk Depressed Swimsuit Cassie is a fucking mood
-Maddie clapping out "He's such a ****" is based and praxis
-The scene where Jules found out Rue is using emotionally shattered me.
-The church scene was a masterpiece of cinematography

I actually really liked this episode, but it definitely feels more like an interlude than an actual full storyline. It really just shows all of the tension and anxiety built up this season come to a head in a carthartic, beautiful disaster. Nothing is really solved, and the worst is almost certainly yet to come, but this episode feels like cinematic scream of pain and anger finally being released.

I really liked this episode actually. Amazingly shot like usual and I was really into the last scene with Cal and his family, I thought that was super intense

I really want something to go well for Cassie soon lol

That Cal scene at the end…wow.

  12. It's gotta be intentional but every episode of this show feels like watching someone's crazy fever dream, it never feels grounded in reality

Sam Levinson said “if season one was a house party at 2am, season two should feel like 5am – way past the point at which everyone has gone home”
and I can totally see that.

    Die rad.

I hope thats not the last of Nate's dad on the show
Need more Fez, less Jules/Rue. Their "relationship" bores the shit out of me. All the other characters are way more interesting.

In my opinion, the Rue/Jules relationship was the emotional core of the show in Season 1. It was my favorite part of the show, and it's what grounded the audience investment in everything else.

So it's dissapointing that it's so weak this season. Seeing Rue just ruin everything she built in Season 1 is supposed to hurt, but they don't give it enough depth or detail to fully get emotionally invested. Rue feels like a non-entity this season, and that really makes Jules & Elliot's characterization feel muddled, because we don't see the relationships expand or build naturally.

Also, it's interesting how Nate was the clear antagonist last season, and now he's just... some dude?

Like Nate was catcalling, sharing revenge porn and beating people up in the first episode of Season 1 and now... other than two-timing Maddie & Cassie, he's done nothing really unlikable this season, certainly nothing plot relevant.

It really adds to this feeling that the Nate/Cassie/Maddie subplot is so insulated from the Rue/Jules/Eliott plotline that they feel like two separate, unfinished shows.

Yeah I almost miss Nate being cartoonishly evil

There's still plenty of time for that to happen though

I mean, drunk driving, speeding, and being emotionally abusive to women is still pretty unlikeable I’d say.

I think the focus was more on Cal the first half and now Nate will be more involved as he reacts to his dad leaving. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him blame Jules or something like that.

Rue needs to either die this season (if she didn't already), or begin getting clean next season. It's getting old.

Idk to me that's kind of... the point of Rue's story on the show - to show how damaging addiction can be not only to a person but to those around them. The show's only been like 12 episodes. To pretend she's just going to be able to simply get clean, especially with the level of addiction she's battling, just seems unrealistic.

I also just don't see them killing her off unless Zendaya specifically asked to be written off the show, and even then I don't quite get what the point of introducing the Laurie storyline was and the stuff with Ali too. I definitely think there was an OD but she'll live.
