Grimes Shares Video for New Song “Shinigami Eyes”

According to a press release, “Shinigami Eyes” will appear on a new Grimes EP called Fairies Cum First, which is described as “a prelude” to the forthcoming album Book 1. Speaking with Lowe, Grimes also said that her next release will be a double album.

This sounds like she is copying all of the artists who got their starts copying her sound.

Weird to think this might be the sound she’s moving toward after all that stuff during the last album rollout of legitimatizing “ethereal” as a genre.

 

I just want a true live performance again, she hasn’t played a live show in a pretty long time.

Her only 2022 date is listed as a DJ set right now.

 

If this and Player of Games are both on the EP that would be cool, then the actual album can be the cool concept album she's been talking about lol.

 

Wonder if this has something to do with the sonic change. Just seems devoid of warmth and feels computer-generated. What attracts me to the last record was how she integrated personality into the songs and there's still a human face behind the futuristic vibes and AI-conceptual stuff. Even the vocals on this song don't give me Grimes feels.

 

It feels like one of the songs she quickly makes for fun randomly, which it also sounds like it actually is that but the label liked it and wanted her to put it out as a single.

 

I dig the song and obvious Death Note reference (one of my favourite animes) earns it bonus points.

yeah no shit. also the article says she was being 'cancelled online' for her relationship with a literal billionaire which uh... didn't happen. at all.

 

Idk I'd undoubtedly say she received a ton of criticism for that and still does.

 

criticism? sure, but she wasn't 'cancelled'. that's not a thing

 

Cancelled basically means criticism.

 

she still has a platform and a career so I'd say she's doing OK.

 

Being "canceled" isn't a real thing. It's just a cultural phenomenon and has no real-world consequences. Louis CK still sells out shows. Harvey Weinstein still makes royalties from his films. JK Rowling still has a massive following and her books are still actively being used as source-material.
