In comparing the Colts situation to the Bengals though, you’re also comparing a relatively great line to an awful one lol. In the Colts case, that’s a pretty good litmus test, if someone can’t stop getting sacked in that offense then yeah it’s probably on him and his pocket presence.

Seeing the way Burrow’s guards got beat in 0.87 seconds on almsot every passing down makes me think the reason his pressure-sack rate is that high is because pressure is coming a lot FASTER more often

 

It is okay to say that the Bengals offensive line sucks and Burrow also invites pressure/sacks

Andrew Luck was this way too. The OL wasn’t good by any means, he was Mahomes-ian and sometimes made plays that made it worth it, but also the dude invited the pressure and got pummeled on a year in, year out basis and often made a bad situation worse when it didn’t work out

 

That same trait is why he hangs tough in games where the Bengals are mostly outmatched, and still makes outstanding plays happen downfield though?

I would rather my QB keep trying to throw downfield in a game like that personally. To be resilient and to play like Joe Burrow anyway and not coil into a ball just because it’s the playoffs and their defense is going off. Sometimes he takes a sack and gets himself into trouble, sure - but to me it would be worse to show teams on tape that you can force him out of his natural rhythm / game style by blitzing frequently. A lot of QBs reveal a vulnerability there and get “figured out”. Joe is telling teams “look you can blitz and sack me all you want but you STILL better watch out for Chase 40 yards downfield”. And that affects how much a DC is willing to keep taking those risks

 

There are upsides and downsides to everything. Sure, burrow invites sacks in games where his OL is outmatched. Considering every QB except Brady and Rodgers has a glaring flaw, I’m glad that ones his, because that stubborn conviction is also what makes him good. There’s two sides to that coin.

 

Among many more important reasons, I hate that I’ve had to turn on Aaron Rodgers because it sucks to root against amazing quarterbacks. I’ve usually found the Packers pretty easy to root for but I can’t do it anymore

 

That's fine. I want QBs that are resilient too. I don't think anyone here is questioning Burrow's resiliency and confidence. We're questioning aspects of his mentality that can be debilitating to his career and that Bengals team as a whole. Holding onto the football longer than you probably should because you're hunting the big play is cool when those big plays happen. Not nearly as cool when your QB is getting sacked at an absurd rate and is becoming an increasing injury risk.

well it becomes a question of context and how often you do it. Like, anything goes in the playoffs, I do wanna see a QB elevate that courage when it’s win or go home… but he definitely shouldn’t Andrew Luck -style be taking insane hits week after week in the regular season against teams they should beat regardless

And that is why they run so much with Mixon tbh. To take the ball out of burrows hands more, to get into more short yardage / quick throw scenarios, and to redirect defensive lines away from him

Well Burrow did lead the league in sacks during the regular season with 51 and he didn't even play in week 18 so it's a problem no matter what time of year it is

He's young, the offensive line is a glaring problem, and so is coaching. Hopefully everyone can get their shit together this offseason and in years to come to acknowledge and properly address those issues because it'd be a shame to see Burrow go the way of Luck.

It was kinda fun to root against Rodgers because he was cocky but it wasn’t like he did terrible shit, just football stuff. Now it’s not even fun the guy is promoting dangerous disinformation and is becoming more unhinged it seems by the week. I just want to see him gone.
