I loved Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Shazam, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. I literally just created the thread for Peacemaker yesterday. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Sit the hell down.

If you say so! Now why don’t you stop derailing this thread with what clearly appears to be some weird personal bullshit against me for some unknown reason!

I totally understand this sentiment but I for one always appreciate your input in these threads. I’m sorry for contributing to this.

I don't want to sound like I think I'm above this kind of stuff or any better but everyone in this thread right now has incredibly horrible self-awareness and this thread has become the equivalent of just regurgitating into each other's mouths.

  18. Finally watched this today. I was expecting to not really like it but I have to say for the most part this was pretty engaging.

I will say that the climax was clunky and it felt like the creators didn’t quite know how to bring it home but I did enjoy the relationships in the film and how they were a bit more complex than you’d usually see in a Marvel flick.

To me this didn’t feel like a typical Marvel film. Not saying it was leagues better but there definitely was an aspiration of something more in it. Loved the Macari and Druig stuff that was great, as was the unraveling of the story.

Definitely excited for more Eternals in the future.

macari and druig are the highlights for sure but we get like one scene and a few other snippets of them interacting in this 2 and a half hour movie. again, this should have been one of the disney plus shows, with each getting their own 45-1hr episode

pretty much everything about this very bad movie would have been actually good if it was one of the shows. they managed to make a way too long movie still feel incredibly rushed

  21. I was thinking about this as I was watching because I had seen people say that a few times before. One the one hand, I get that thought since we don't spend a ton of time with each of the Eternals. That said, I don't know if we really need to.

I guess I look at it a little like the Guardians movies. Peter is clearly the main character of the bunch and the stories mostly revolve around him. We get bits and pieces of the other characters' backstories and see how they play off each other, but it's still largely Peter's show. With Eternals, Sersi is basically Peter - realizing the truth of her life while the story revolves around her revelations. I personally felt like the pieces we got of the other characters were enough to understand them and their motivations whereas I think there's potential for things to feel more "encyclopedic" if we dug into each one - just giving us information for the sake of information. (Kinda my thoughts on the Boba Fett show right now)

Probably my biggest gripe with this was not exploring the similarities between the Deviants and Eternals. They were both used by the Celestials as tools for their own purpose. I felt like it was a bad call to have the Deviant leader killed by Thena in the climax. Would it have been cliche for a big "come together moment"? Yeah, but I think it would've served the story better than just casting aside another sentient being used by the Celestials.

I feel like the main purpose of the film - the Eternals learning the truth of their existence as well as fully understanding the potential of humanity and their worth to be more than fuel for the Celestials - was shown clearly. Sersi learned to overcome her original purpose and challenge the status quo. Ikaris realized the flaws in his blind devotion. Sprite was interesting as she wasn't necessarily a "bad guy" but had been emotionally damaged after centuries of seeing those around her live the life she wanted, especially Sersi.

Anyway this post is way longer than intended - definitely don't want to add to any bad juju in the thread and I cannot stress enough - to each their own, it's just a movie - but I love talking about this stuff ahaha so once I started typing I just kept going.

The Deviant getting killed by Thena after it had killed a couple Eternals and evolved so much, after Thena had basically just been such a liability most of the movie felt dumb. Obviously the Deviant wasn't the main threat but it just felt like they really wasted something there.

Agree with you that we got enough of the other characters over the length of a movie. I didn't feel a need to get to know most of them more than we did.

I think Kro served the purpose he was intended for. The Deviants were never really the point of the movie; just a device to give context to the Eternals and the Celestials, which they did.

Kro teaming up with the Eternals in any capacity would have been unrealistic, IMO. Kro made clear he blamed the Eternals for the deaths of his brethren just as much as the Eternals hated Kro for killing Ajax and Gilgamesh. Also, the way the two groups view the Celestials even in light of the revelations given to them is markedly different. I don't see how they would come to any kind of understanding.

Would it have been interesting to have Kro live and become a continuing threat for a future movie? Possibly, but I don't think he had anything more to offer in this movie. And his death by Thena served Thena's story, avenging Gilgamesh and coming back to herself.

I dunno, I'm not saying I don't get opposing feelings on this, but I do think what happened is an absolutely logical and satisfying series of events.
