I have never actually watched any of the original Star Trek shows or movies.

I somehow made it through all seven seasons of The Next Generation. It might have been better than most stuff at the time, but the expectations of quality are so much different in a post-Sopranos world.

Fast & Furious > Star Wars

    My reasoning:

    1) There are more good F&F movies than there are good Star Wars movies
    2) Only one of these franchises has actually made me cry real human tears

I mean, look no further than Episode 9 of both of these - F9: The Fast Saga rules and The Rise of Skywalker sucks shit

F9 was a real slog to get through and basically every stunt was shown in the trailer.

I'll probably cherish my experience of seeing F9 forever. First movie back post-vaccination. Loved every minute of it. I was the one person cheering in the audience when it was revealed they would be going to space

I still haven't seen F9. I rewatched all of them in the lead up to it and while I genuinely enjoy 1-6 (Fast Five is still the peak), 7 and 8 were both pretty bad and not as fun as I remember.

I would rather rewatch all the fast and furious moves before I rewatched all the Star Wars movies.

There's at least a sense of consistency with the Fast franchise after the fourth one. The absurdity ramps up in a way that feels somewhat natural.

Screw it, I'm ranking mainline Fast & Furious and Star Wars movie together:

    1. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. The Last Jedi
    3. Fast Five
    4. A New Hope
    5. Furious 7
    6. F9
    7. Return of the Jedi
    8. Fast & Furious 6
    9. Tokyo Drift
    10. 2 Fast 2 Furious
    11. The Force Awakens
    12. The Fast & The Furious
    13. Revenge of the Sith
    14. The Fate of the Furious
    15. Fast & Furious
    16. The Phantom Menace
    17. Attack of the Clones
    18. Rise of Skywalker

The only Fast movie I’ve seen is 6 and I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say it’s a better franchise than Star Wars, where I’ve seen every feature film and asked myself why I kept doing this to myself for 7 of the 11 movies

The trajectory of that series is so funny. It lost both leads by the third film and looked like it was going to end up like those American Pie sequels that only come out on DVD. Instead it is now one of the biggest franchises in the world.

Part of the franchise's charm is the bumpy journey from film to film. It's literally a Shonen anime with escalating Hollywood budgets

I do worry now that the series has become too self-aware (the idea of them going to space started as a joke online).
