Have an appointment booked on 1/4 finally.

I dropped off some ideas literally a year ago and never heard back and thought maybe they were just super fucking busy, but went in about three weeks ago and the same person I talked to a year ago goes, “oh shit we never called you? I’m so sorry” and then she told me I’d hear back within a day or two and then had to call today and make her and I feel awkward as shit since I still hadn’t heard back lol but now they called me back and got me booked. Kind of wild that it will be the same person who has done 3 of my 4 tattoos but I haven’t had one done in about a decade. Getting a relatively small one on my inside forearm up by my elbow to start before something bigger so I can remember the process (hoping I’m not a wimp now - way back when it just felt like sandpaper being rubbed on your skin, I’m expecting the same).

Just had the consultation to finish my right arm but can’t get the first session until end of March. Ugh, I hate waiting.

 

Subbing. I'm having a first consultation to discuss tattoo ideas in early February. That's something I've been considering for years but kept delaying for many reasons, so I'm thrilled to finally start my tattoo journey!

I have some things I'm looking to get next but I feel like my biggest issue is placement. Because I'm piecing together a bunch of stuff into a sleeve, I'm fretting over which order to do them in. Next time I go into my local guy, I'm gonna ask him to help me map it out.

Oh yeah I follow him. I need to get some work done by some Pittsburgh guys, its not too far from cleveland and yall have some sick artists there.

 

yeah there are some dope artists out here. This is my first one not from my regular dude since I got my first tattoo. I want to get more from Dexter and some other cool artists and branch out more.

yeah I love it and I know people who have gone to him and the color does not fade at all.

 

Has anyone gotten their shin tattooed in here? It’s been a week and my shin bone still feels like it was hit with a baseball bat.

 

ouch, fuck. Can’t say I’m surprised it feels that way. Way braver than me lol I could never get my shin tattooed.

 

Maybe a super dumb question because I haven’t gotten a tattoo since like 2010, so you tip your artist? I’m assuming no? I feel like whatever you pay covers the cost of their ink, needles, etc. and pays them directly? I have an appointment on the 20th but it’s with the owner of the shop so maybe that changes things versus if it was just someone that worked there?

 

I always tip. Anywhere between 50-100 depending on the price of the tattoo.

 

Id say as a general rule always tip your artist, even if it's $20

I have no idea what even the estimate will be, not sure if that’s unusual or not. This first one isn’t very big so I’m suspecting maybe $100-$125.

I remember tattooing feeling like sandpaper rubbing against my skin and not actual pain but want to make sure my old ass thinks the same way my 21 year old self did before moving on to bigger pieces lol

 

I feel like even a small tip shows how much you value the work they did, especially if they draw something for you and put in that effort. I also think if it's an artist you plan on going back to for more work, a nice tip lets them know you enjoy/value their work and they will help you out on pricing if they can, especially if they're like the shop owner or something.

 

Yeah my regular tattoo artist hooks me up all the time and I think it’s partly because of the tips I give him.

 

Same with my regular guy, plus he's friends with my brothers and has been in a band with one of them.

 

shin was probably the least uncomfortable i’ve been during a tattoo. could be that it was higher up where there’s a little more meat on the leg, but it was also the first tattoo i could watch the artist and was pretty drawn in just watching him work.

 

collarbone was killer, though, and mine just barely got touched.

 

I still say nothing beats the ribs.

worst pain I've ever had was the chest, specifically sternum. It was full color trad so 3 passes over that area... not a fun time while simultaneously trying to control your breathing. Luckily the artist was super quick and not heavy handed. Probably why I'm gonna hold off on doing more torso work for a while though.

 

God, I love ribs.
