Started filling out my taxes today…after putting everything in for income, I had a nice return, but then entered the Advanced Child Tax Credits we received, and it plummeted!! I thought we received half monthly and then the other half would be part our tax return?! Not good…I totally misunderstood or I never would have opted into the monthly oayments

 

From what I understand, that's only for PCR because they are more sensitive so it could still stay positive for a while even though you aren't contagious anymore, meanwhile antigen usually only pick up active infections. So if her symptoms are gone or mostly gone and she gets a negative antigen test, you should be perfectly fine to see her.

 

It absolutely should be half received in the payments and the 2nd half on the return.

 

That's actually very good. It means you weren't giving the government an interest free loan on your money all year, it was actually yours to do with as you please.

ive done i70 from pa to missouri as a passanger but the worst drive i do myself is boston/providence to anywhere south of nyc.

driving thru connecticut fucking sucks because its basically bumper to bumper most of the state unless you leave in the middle of the night. i took a detour thru mass/upstate ny once and it was 10 times better despite being a couple hours longer. used to live in western mass and forgot how gorgeous it is

 

I’ve driven from Philly to St. Louis (and back) many many times and I enjoy it lol but I like long car rides. Smoking weed and listening to music all day is my idea of a good time anyway, taking it on wheels is just a bonus

It definitely should be. Are you using software for your taxes? It's possible there's an issue there. It's also important to note that the half that would be on your return is not equal to the amount of the previous child tax credit.

Before 2021 it was $2,000 for any child, and in 2021was increased to $3600 for children under 6 and $3000 for children age 6-17. So if you have a child in the first group, the amount on your return will be $200 less than what it was in previous years ($1800 vs. $2000) and if you have a child in the second group it will be $500 less ($1500 vs. $2000).

There are also potential issues if your previous income was below the threshold to be eligible for the payment but it increased in 2021 so you're no longer eligible or are eligible for less.

 

i believe that is the case*, even so that would still be $1800 less since the tax credit is $3600 this year (or $3000 for kids over 6)
