Zion to Flagstaff for me. It was just depressing driving through the Native land that was mostly shanties.

I got COVID pre-vaccine. For me personally, at the beginning of COVID, I didn't go to the gym for nearly a year and instead found outside exercise to do by myself (biking/hiking) and/or ran on a treadmill in my basement and really didn't go to restaurants or public areas outside of grocery store(s). Even at work, I just mainly stuck to sitting in my office instead of going to other areas of the office and/or buildings.

I got COVID last February and ended up getting vaxxed a month later. After that I personally started to feel more comfortable going back to the gym/restaurants/public areas, etc. and resuming more every day life activities but I understand those that don't.

Also, speaking of licking things...the hardest part of this entire pandemic for me is not licking my fingers before grabbing a vegatable/fruit bag at the grocery store :crylaugh:

If the Manchins and Sinemas of the Senate don't think McConnell will immediately nuke the filibuster once they have both chambers secured for generations, they're fooling themselves. It will happen on day one.

Of course, they likely know and just don't care.

Zion NP? We did that drive (With a stop at the north rim of the Grand Canyon) and I thought it was amazing. I don't remember seeing a lot of shanties TBH, just tons of desert and rock formations haha. We also stopped at Horseshoe Bend. We did go through a bunch of small towns in northern AZ/southern Utah but don't think it was native land

I did find the drive through Ohio boring, but at least Columbus exists.....there's literally nothing but a few small towns scattered between Denver and KC haha

This was a straight shot with zero towns. It was purely desolation. I was stressing even looking for gas stations.

Yeah it looks like google maps on a direct drive no stops sends you up into native land along the AZ/Utah border and then into the southern part of Grand Staircase Escalante which is definitely "desolate" to say the least. But I personally loved driving through the parts of Grand Staircase that we did on the northern end. Beautiful.

This is the correct answer, though anything more towards the south and West Virginia is slightly better because of the scenery. The drive from Detroit to Columbus is my most hated drive.

I fucking hate it. I drive it at least once to twice a year to go back home for Thanksgiving and for family events. 8.5 hours of nothing on I70 and more often than not it’s super windy and pushing your car all over the lane. The Great Plains fucking suck.

I have limited road trips outside of the Northeast but driving south through Virginia and North Carolina and you realize how big and boring those states are.

Also driving anywhere not on a coastal part of the Upper Peninsula in Michigan is fucking boring. You probably won't have service, multiple places that look like their 20 years into an apocalypse, zero towns with any real population, and no gas stations. That close to three hour drive from the bridge to Marquette was fucking wild for more than half it once you get into the interior of the UP.

    lmao

IIRC, the first time I did this trip was actually on a Greyhound, and up until Kansas I had an entire row of seats to myself. But we got to Topeka and a whole crapton of people got on so I had to double up with an old lady, all the way until hays when a lot of people got off.

Literally the worst part of that bus trip was the Kansas portion scenery-wise, and it ended up being coupled with also being the only time on the trip I couldn't stretch out. Lame.

My 2nd time through on our way back from Colorado, my wife and I camped at a KOA in Goodland, KS. Kind of sucked waking up and having to drive the entire way through Kansas still lol

I feel like I should talk less shit on Kansas because it seems like the great plains state most likely to turn purple/has the most liberals/lefties in it....but man. What a boring state to drive through.

Best drive I ever did was from Cleveland to Vermont in 2018. Long, but we took almost all back roads through upstate New York all the way to Vermont and it was the middle of Fall and it was the most beautiful drive of my life. Literally people were getting out of their cars and taking photos of the Fall Foliage. Breathtaking really.

I'm sorry you've had to go through this so many times. It's definitely much worse than driving through Ohio.

If we're being honest, like 98 percent of the country is a painfully boring drive. Unless you're driving along the coast of an ocean, lake or through mountains/fall foliage/scenic areas, you're going to be bored to tears.
