Why are people freaking out about that timeout? It was called with like 3 seconds on the play clock and less than 40 seconds on the game clock. It could have still be the final play if the Chargers didn’t give up those yards. I’m assuming he called it to make sure his defense was ultra prepared. They just fucked up on the play.

He can’t go into a play just assuming the other team isn’t going to try. He has to prepare his team. It wasn’t dumb to call the timeout. It just didn’t work.

 

The Raiders were also lined up in shotgun so it’s not like they were going to take a knee. They were going to call a play, Staley called a timeout to get different players in, and the Raiders got the first down. This dumb timeout discourse would not be happening if people actually got their heads out of their asses and realized that two professional NFL teams were not going to purposefully tie so they both could get in

 

That's really the answer, people insist the Raiders were going to go for the tie intentionally, which no matter what they feed us for fun I'm certain they weren't (I'm pretty sure the coach confirmed that the plan that changed was that they were going for pass and changed to run but can't confirm cuz I was sleepy when I saw it)

And I know there’s the thing about Bisaccia saying to coaches on the sideline they might take the tie, but I imagine that only would have been the case if they were in a situation where they had to try a long and improbable field goal

 

If the chargers stuff that last run, game is still over after that play. The timeout didn’t fuck with the clock management at all. They gave up yards and put the raiders in FG range.
