Everything negative about days gone seems to be from people who didn't get past the beginning as it apparently starts slow before hitting its stride. Now that's fine, as I don't agree with sitting through something you don't enjoy (games or TV) just because it gets better, but that may be why it's perceived as not a good game. I dunno though, not my account as I haven't played it but it's on my list. I also remember a lot of the critics being like 'ohhh another gruff disgruntled white man game' when apparently the story is a lot more than that.

Valhalla is more interesting story wise than most people have let on a few hours in. At least, it’s a serviceable start to set the background of the main character

Steam reviews, especially for triple A titles, are rarely an indicator of a game’s actual quality, but rather a way to see if the port is good and if the price is fair. Days Gone is an extremely competent PC port that launched at a decent price.

That said, I don’t think the game deserves a thumbs down on a binary scale either — my beef is mainly with this guy who’s been saying dumb shit before and then when people called him out went on David Jaffe’s podcast to cry about it. (this is the same guy who said gamers should buy games at full price if they want sequels)

I may be missing some nuances here, but on the surface that actually sounds like a pretty reasonable statement to me. I buy almost every game on sale or in bundles but that's because in a battle vs. my selfish desire and my bank account, I'll look for the path of least resistance. That said, I understand that realistically the more profit a company makes, the more resources they have to keep going. Doesn't really sound that controversial?

It's right and it is wrong, because, as I said before, the gaming industry is very broken

it's kinda like politicians having to earn our vote or if it is our civic duty to vote for the lesser of evils

also, especially with new IP, just forking over 70 dollars of your hard earned money on goodwill alone (especially with middling reviews) is a gamble not everybody can afford.

I started valhalla over the break and I like it. Its got a lot of difficulty and other options in the menu that allow you to make it not grindy like the last two games if you want. That helps someone like me alot. The world is pretty crazy detailed. The combat is ultimately pretty floaty and uninspiring but its serviceable enough. I hear from most everybody not to bother with side mission stuff until after main quest if you still want more.

Ive only ever beat AC1. Played some of 2 at a friends house. Played 3 when that came out and quit halfway. Started Origins and loved alot about it except for how grindy it is then quit.

As someone who was late to the AC party, I tend to play and only focus on main quest stuff. I beat 1 and 2 focusing only on main quest, started Black Flag and got bogged down in the side stuff and gave up, beat Unity focusing only on main quest. I plan to continue with Syndicate but I always figured I'd avoid the new games because of length.

Is main quest manageable? Like 20ish hours? Or still a bloated 40+?

Forza Horizon 5 is at almost 15 million players. Kinda wild...

The past 3 games are all mega long. My favorite thing to do is do an area or 2 completely and then play another game and come back.
