I know I sound like a crazy person because I'm always harping on the CDC guidance while also saying that they are an absolute fucking clownshow and are completely unreliable and untrustworthy, but what is the alternative...??? Americans need to get their guidance from somewhere.

The CDC needs to be just laying out what is safe and putting the onus on employers or whoever it may be to say "yeah look, I know what the CDC says but you need to come back to work now". It's like with OSHA rules - OSHA doesn't help you cut fucking corners to save money or time or whatever, that's just what people end up doing despite OSHA, not with their help. This is fucking crazy. I feel like I'm losing my mind.

Amazon has updated its Alexa voice assistant after it “challenged” a 10-year-old girl to touch a coin to the prongs of a half-inserted plug. The suggestion came after the girl asked Alexa for a “challenge to do”.

“Plug in a phone charger about halfway into a wall outlet, then touch a penny to the exposed prongs,” the smart speaker said.

Amazon said it fixed the error as soon as the company became aware of it.

there is a preventable measure out there that helps alleviate the need for hospital treatment, but its not perfect. still plenty of vaccinated people getting sick enough they need to go to the hospital.

Not sure if it’s hit the national news yet but we had random shootings in multiple locations throughout Denver yesterday involving the same gunman. He had been on DPD radar since 2020 for extremist views

It hits a little close to home, while I didn’t know any of the victims personally, the owner of Sol Tribe tattoo in Denver passed away from the shooting, I’ve been there a few times as my artist worked there for a bit, and she was such a positive influence on the Denver art community.

Another victim was the girlfriend of a guy I grew up going to shows with and seeing him all the time in the community. I haven’t seen or talked to him in a few years, but he’s really made great strides in his life the last few years from what I’ve seen, my heart breaks for him.

 

This is probably a super variable question based on how each person’s family would react that might influence your decision but we had a large Christmas gathering where I was told everyone was at least vaccinated if not vaccinated and boosted (like me).

since late yesterday I have a handful of symptoms of what could be any of the three (covid, flu, cold). My question - would you text other family members and ask how they are or no? I asked my mom and step dad and they said they’re fine and haven’t heard anything from anyone else about being sick so I’m hoping that’s true and maybe I’m the only one. I don’t know what asking them would do other than maybe piss some of them off or freak them out, but like, maybe a few of them would say they got tested right before and were negative and maybe that would make me feel a bit better / at least let me know what I had. Idk.
