If I wanted to schedule a COVID test at a CVS near me the next available date is…January 5th

 

I dunno if humans engineered the ability to travel through the galaxies I’m sure the only thing we’re going to do is claim resources. If we’re still alive when our planet is completely uninhabitable we would definitely go steal another planet if we could

 

I mean what would you like us to do, just send a test to every person in the country!?

 

We both just tested negative on our at-home tests, wootwoot. Just says to test again in 24-36 hours for better accuracy

 

Yup and tests are sold out everywhere here. What an absolutely colossal failure by the administration. As has been said hundreds of times in this thread, two years in and we can't get weekly shipments of tests and N-95s

 

My CVS doesn't even test people which seemed odd to me. They've also had signs up saying they're sold out of home tests for over a month now.

 

Ugh trying to find a place to get tested tomorrow is stressful. I found a pop up an hour away on public transit. I need rapid results to know what to tell my psychiatrist about my TMS sessions so that’s limiting my options by a lot.

 

The game I'm playing with work right now is trying to find out if they want me to come in tomorrow seeing as how my exposure was yesterday. I think today would have been too soon to test and they are telling me I don't need one at work because I don't have any symptoms. I think the responsible thing is to not go in until I get a negative test (hopefully) tomorrow or the next day or if I find out I'm positive wait the full time.

I'm really struggling with this. This latest guidance just makes explicit a lot of the things we've long known now, which people have been pointing out. This is fucking insane.

 

Terrible idea for schools to reopen next week after holiday travel. We need to go remote for January

 

The one thing I was sure of in this election was that Biden would be much better on covid. I’m really starting to question how much a difference it would have been. The economy ultimately always comes first.

 

my school announced tonight that we will be doing PCR tests for the entire school on 1/7.

…three days after we start classes. At least we have plenty of rapid tests through a state program we can use in the meantime.

I’m hopeful we’ll go virtual for that first week and then return in person on Monday 1/10 after we get results and can screen out anyone positive from holiday gatherings.

 

If the data shows people likely aren’t transmitting the virus after 5 days and having no symptoms, why not do this? Yeah it helps people get back to work which obviously is good for the economy but also good for people in general so they can get back to life.

If I can come out of isolation after 5 days instead of 10, of course I want to do that. Some medical experts have been talking about shortening the isolation period for weeks now.

 

Where do you start counting the five days...? When someone first shows symptoms? What about all of the asymptomatic people who can still spread???

I think this strategy would be a possibility in a country with a robust and successful testing program / strategy. I don't think it makes sense in a country that has completely and utterly fucked up testing to the point that only extremely wealthy exceptions to the rule - like professional sports players - have access to testing at the level it would require to implement this strategy safely. I think this is being driven by economic concerns and the decision has been made that we are fucking expendable and don't matter as long as the economy keeps chugging along and the right people keep making money and we can just go get fucked and die.

Went to a CVS community testing center this afternoon - absolutely nobody there. Was in and out in like 4 minutes. Amazing. Tested negative too, so I’m all set to fly out of the country tomorrow
