what if you elect a couple more dems like Manchin?? You’re argument sucks. They haven’t and won’t do anything. They’re spineless.

  2. That "Holding Biden Accountable" account reminds me so much of the "Resistance" accounts being ran by those Krassenstein bros in 2017. Stretching things as far as they can for the RTs.

my time is better spent organizing with leftist groups, furthering the causes of unions across workplaces in America, focusing on local elections where left leaning candidates are far more likely to share the same goals as me and where change is much more readily apparent. I’ll vote in midterms and presidential election years but don’t expect me to pretend to be excited about voting for a party and politicians that fuck me over every chance they get through their ineptitude and inaction

  4. “I’m going to vote but I’m definitely not going to Get Out the Vote” is going to be the real Dem-killer in the end, and liberals will have no problem blindly guilting people for it the way they do now with blue-no-matter-who.

If Bernie was president I'd be having this conversation on my yacht I paid for with Elon's taxes.

I don't either for the most part but I could see all the cars coming to a stop and I didn't even see this truck on the horizon, that's how fast they must have been going and how badly they ran the red light, they weren't even in my line of sight when I made my turn so even waiting wouldn't have helped

we all know that you have to not only vote, but enthusiastically vote, or you basically think democrats are the same as literal nazis

I don’t give a shit if progressives don’t aggressively talk up non-prog Dems. But if the discourse ends up accepting as truth that both parties are the same, that’s a problem.

We can criticize Dems a lot without getting to them being the same as Repubs lol.

how many times do we have the make the same exact point. “they’re the same” doesn’t mean the democrats literally pass the same policies and have the same platform as republicans. but fundamentally speaking, their interests are largely the same, and the democrats really are nothing more than controlled opposition. I truly believe that, whether they intend to be or not, all they do is give the Republican Party legitimacy by appearing to stand against them but rolling over and letting the republicans steamroll through whatever fucking ass backwards policies they want when they have the power. and when they don’t, the democrats do nothing themselves. what else would you possibly call that? what other purpose does the party serve?

Seems like burying an entire generation in loan debt was a bad idea.

i 100% agree with this. I just disagree with the “Two parties are the same doesn’t matter if you do or don’t vote “ notion

Dems and Republicans are both upholding the same political system that works to benefit the wealthy, military contractors, big pharma, insurance companies etc. They aren't the same, they want different priorities within the allowed system. But they are both more bound to protect the corporate political system than they are to do anything that might even accidentally help regular people.

They aren't exactly the same, but they should both be viewed as enemies to any hope for a better country.

I don’t know how you still hold such a staunch disagreement after pages of discussion and hardly any answer to the question of “where has voting gotten us thus far” and all you can come back with is “we just gotta vote some more next time.” there’s just a severe disconnect between reality and some idealized future you’ve dreamed up where voting works

well most of that is very tangibly not true, but to the first part…I know that! You know that! Every regular in this thread knows that!…..but disengaged people who barely pay any attention to government and politics don’t! There are literally millions of people out there who think there is zero difference between the parties on policies that get passed and there’s no difference at all and no point to voting because they’re both the same and etc. They don’t pay enough attention due to life circumstances or whatever else to know that nuance. Repeating that message into the discourse over and over again, especially on social media where those people would be most likely to run into the only political news/discourse they’ll see, is a bad idea. Especially with *gestures wildly* everything the Republican Party is right now. The last thing we need is to add to the discourse that there’s no real difference.

And I think everyone here knows that because we all post tweets criticizing the media for doing it too. The both sidesing in the media is destructive AF.

Ugh we had nature documentaries on for our kid because he’s really into animals and volcanos right now and the walrus scene from Our Planet just played.

    So fucking depressing.

y’all think people equate the two parties simply because other people do it, and not because they have two eyes and can see that neither party has done anything for them. that’s not a failure of the media, or the discourse, that’s a failure of the party that’s supposed to be “better” failing to actually do anything meaningfully “better” than the other party. all we ever get when democrats are in power are, at best, half measures that are easily undone by the time republicans slide into power again, and, at worse, absolutely nothing at all. “Neither party has done shit to make the average Americans life better” is more accurate than “the parties are the same,” so sure let’s just say that instead. It’s still fuck the democrats and I blame zero people that won’t vote for them

We’re back to “people are going to die from non-covid injuries and illness specifically because the hospital couldn’t get to them” levels of hospitalizations

Just a few weeks ago I had thought this would be a mostly normal Christmas , we got our boosters and things were looking okay. We would go out to dinner on Christmas Eve and go to church for midnight mass, and then go to our aunt's house on Christmas like we did every year except last. But now with all these cases I just don't know anymore

We are still planning to go to my aunt's house on Christmas, probably will be around 20 people so not too many and I think most of them are vaxxed, at least more than half. But now we are debating whether to go out to dinner -- my dad says yes, my mom is leaning no, i'm 50-50, haven't asked my sister what she thinks yet so idk what we are going to do. Haven't even talked about church yet or if we will just watch mass online. At least with church it's a larger area and we can wear masks unlike a restaurant so we'll see.
