It's the stark reality and I'm okay with it. I also think it may be overplaying the hand a bit if omicron truly is less lethal, but still. I don't think it's a bad thing to be blunt with what people will potentially face if their choice is to remain unvaccinated.

the only thing that seems to convince vaccine skeptics is if there are impediments or restrictions if you don't get vaccinated, I know they're loud but the people who would lose their job or the ability to do fun shit over it is a small minority

All I know is that the White House telling my 13 month old daughter she is in for a winter of severe illness and death is not gonna convince her to get the vaccine. She’s very willful for being only one.

I think it’s pretty clear what group “the unvaccinated” is directed toward and it’s certainly not the little ones who can’t get the vaccine.

Pretty sure Covid won’t be making the same distinction. So the White House can still fuck right off with that nonsense.

I think “scare” is a weird way to describe some of this, but … fear (or put more mildly risk mitigation) is literally how almost all of those things worked on me. I got the shot out of fear. I use birth control out of a version of fear. I think we have pretty good metrics on fear being a motivator (not the most effective, but the most effective got us 80% or whatever the current number is and have been mostly tried). Even if this was a weird out of context screenshot that is not actually the public health policy being put forward, I’d actually say maybe “fear” of what could happen if you get this - based in reality - is better than another version of “it’s not a big deal”? I’m scared of getting it. I kinda wish more people were too. But beyond that the WH should act as if what this is saying is as true as it could be and make policy decisions based on it - my issue is they’re not doing that part. Far more than the messaging in a briefing or whatever I’m mad they’re not acting like those words are true. The “ok this is true what can we do to make it better for people” part is missing afaict.

Yeah, and I’m also curious why anyone under the age of 5 would be reading this quote to begin with

Honestly the best way to never hear Joe Manchin’s name again is to get Fetterman elected in PA.

If the author of the quote was referring to anti-vaxxers then they should have said that instead of unvaccinated. Specificity matters. Most of this discussion could have been avoided with more careful use of language.

I just don't think strongly worded memos are sufficient action at this point in time given where we are at and what we are facing.
