What did Trump/other republicans do to McCain that Biden isn't doing to Manchin?

 

Realizing that the 2020s are likely going to be an absolute shit decade

 

McCain was abated by death and they still completely eradicated his ideological lineage within the Republican Party lol

 

and Manchin? he already doesn't really have an ideological lineage in the Democratic Party. And what's left definitely won't be for long.

 

Oh see, i think the dominant ideological lineage of the Democratic Party is Manchin’s. Maybe not in terms of tone, but Good Things Cannot Be Allowed to Happen is very obviously the stance the party will take for the foreseeable future.

48/50 of the dem senate was ready to support a $3.5 trillion BBB bill. Ideologically, Manchin is no where near in step with what the party believes, and he knows it too.

 

i think the only (but big danger) there is Manchin definitely isn’t a man of his word and seems totally petty enough to change parties and give McConnell the majority

 

Is primarying Manchin the right move? I'm honestly not sure at this point.

Manchin still allows some good things to happen. Like getting judges appointed. If Beyer were to actually do the right thing and retire it would definitely be better to have Manchin in the senate than a republican, and there is decent reason to think a non-Manchin dem would lose.

On the other hand, accepting that is a bit defeatest. Maybe someone could run *on* getting BBB passed and actually win.

 

If someone did to Trump what Manchin did to Biden, Trump would be frantically asking aids what authority he has to kick them out of the party

 

Were 48/50 of the dem senate actually ready? Or was like 40/50 of the dem senate ready and a bunch of others were hiding behind Manchin? I'm honestly not sure.

 

I think taking that, on faith, the Democratic Party was actually going to step up and pass this bill is a step i don’t feel prepared to take based on the past 10-12 years. I’m much more inclined to believe that if Manchin weren’t there to take the heat, someone else would have stepped into that role.

 

I don't know for sure, but I just use the fact that Hickenlooper was actively pushing for support for it. If a staunch moderate like him was for it, I have a hard time seeing the rest not also being for it and ready to vote yes
