I don't really know what to make of this either. If this pattern holds all around the world though, this seems like extremely good news. Really seems like a best case scenario at this point. I hope this isn't a fluke or some kind of SNAFU with how they are interpolating the data. Seems very promising.

Yeah I think we’re going to start to see a big divergence between the number of infected and those requiring hospitalization.

I had to go into my bank today and while I was waiting for a banker someone was just berating one of the tellers for something that sounded like it was their own fault and other than obviously feeling terrible for the teller it made me feel so glad I don't want in a CSR type position anymore

I do want to believe that and it has started to occur in most of the European countries which have had high cases and low deaths since the summer (although the CFR for the US hasn't dropped anywhere near as significantly as in Europe).

The thing that's strange to me about the SA situation is that it is quite poorly vaccinated that is seeing essentially Spring 2020 positivity rates and, while there is plenty of prior infection, it's not clear how helpful that is with Omicron. And yet the severe illness numbers are nowhere near as bad as prior waves. Maybe we've finally just hit immunity rates that are high enough to see this effect, maybe Omicron is genuinely milder, or maybe a bit of both. I'd be curious to see what next week brings with the SA numbers (if there's a backlog of deaths released, for example) as there were some reporting issues this week. But if the pattern holds, it is quite encouraging, albeit with the real and major downside of a high probability of significant rises in cases and deaths globally.

Getting back to normal?? Yeah I have to take off work every other week because my kid’s daycare closes due to a covid case. I just attended a funeral for a family member two weeks ago because they died from covid. Returning my crippling debt isn’t what the fuck we mean by getting back to normal Biden you piece of shit

I guess technically student loans are in fact a normal part of American life. Where he is a dumbass is not having the courage to create a new and better normal for the country.

It took about 30 hours but I feel like absolute dog shit. Only sorta kinda jealous of people who only had to get the booster.

I hurt so bad but I know it’s worth it.

I don't even find it funny anymore. Honestly, now I just find it utterly horrifying that our country has so many people in it like this fucking idiot, who decided he wanted to die at 52 years old because Trump. Insanity.

A reality tv star decides it is politically advantageous to downplay a highly contagious virus and piss in the face of the science and common sense and the safety measures we do have and people like this guy are falling all over themselves lining up to be the next to die.

We’ve had an extremely dry November and December and the brain geniuses who run my county decided to have a holiday fireworks show tonight at 3 different locations and guess what, they all started vegetation fires! :upside::upside::upside:
