Top 5 Christmas films in no order:

    - Jingle All the Way
    - The Grinch (Jim Carey)
    - Elf
    - The Santa Clause
    - Ernest Saves Christmas

The claymation Rudolph and Nester the Long Eared Donkey are great too, but they’re more like animated shorts than films.

That movie truly blew my mind. My mom would take us to Hollywood Video once a week and I would pick the movie and my brother would pick the video game. I probably chose it because Ben Stiller was on the cover and my whole family loved Meet the Parents. The Saturday morning clerk, as she often did, tried to warn my mother it was a "weird" movie and we would not like it. My mother hated it but I watched it three times before we returned it. A used copy for my birthday was one of my most prized possessions.

  10. The only thing more wild than Nic Cage as Charlie Kaufman in a Charlie Kaufman screenplay is Nic Cage as Nic Cage

  13. How were 2 and 3? I saw them years ago and felt like 2 was fine but 3 was bad.

I actually just re-watched 1 and 2 last week, gonna watch 3 this week. 1 absolutely holds up. 2 holds up, but not as well as I remembered. It's still really good though, but a bit too much action versus plot and the plot itself is definitely a bit wonky.

I think 2 and 3 are fine, you just have to be okay with it focusing more on Zion than the Matrix itself. 2 is a bit more action-heavy and fun, and maybe 3 takes itself a little too seriously in comparison, but the plot for both isn't as convoluted as I remember. I think a big part of my appreciation, in this viewing in particular, comes from seeing what they were able to accomplish technically in a time before cgi and the MCU had taken over the industry. Any time there's a bunch of Smith clones it's inherently silly, but the battle for Zion still holds up, it's astonishingly well crafted imo

  24. Elf's rewatchability is lacking. I can watch Home Alone and Christmas Vacation every year, but most of the other movies get pretty old.

Elf's only problem is something that isn't its fault. It's the same problem The Office has. People making it their entire personality around Christmas time like it's the greatest film ever made. But if you set aside that problem, it's a solid, perfectly enjoyable movie.
