I may have said this before but way back in the day before I started running the episode of The Office where Andy tapes up his nipples before their 5K I always thought was just a weird joke, I had no idea that actually happened to people. Definitely happens to me so I’ve put those small square bandaids over my nipples on every run, no matter the distance, for about two years straight now because that shit huuuuurts. Like paper cuts if you wanna wince at the thought lol

I will usually take cold weather over hot weather for the most part for distance running. As long as it’s not super cold or raining. Cold rain/slush is the worst since there is not much you can do for your feet unless you wear trail shoes maybe. But in general, I find the breathing much better in the cold as opposed to the heat.

I signed up for a late January 5k and end of March half-marathon in the midst of my post-marathon blues... after my first run on Sunday, I regret it, haha.

Now that the trails are mostly covered in ice and snow I’ll be sticking to road runs for the next 2-3 months. I’m pretty sure I’ve run on every single road in my city which is pretty cool to think about but going through some neighborhoods again I haven’t been on in years is a weird trip down memory lane and neat to see the architecture of different houses as I like that kind of thing. Also sometimes fun or exhausting to find out just how far down a “dead end” road goes and/or how many subdivisions splinter off from it lol. Went down one the other day was legit 4.5 miles by the time I got back to the main road. Was not expecting that.

Ugh, we now have like a foot of snow on the ground; will have to wait for it to get warmer so it all melts a bit. Still not sure my usual path will be cleared of enough snow to be runnable

Decided last night on some pretty challenging 2022 plans. Mapping out logistics and whatnot but if I can make it all work it will be a hell of a year. Honestly if I can make even half of it work it will be a hell of a year.

Felt like a single solitary degree outside but still wanted to get my run in in case I have side effects from my booster shot this morning.

And funny how even when it’s goddamn freezing there still times I pulled down my face covering and wanted to take off my gloves and hat for a few moments because I was so warm lol

Started reading “Finding Gobi” about a guy who runs ultras and met a small dog who ended up running most of the race with him. I’m only about 50 pages in but the vibe I get from the guy is a bit of a douche. He spends a few pages talking about how bad he beat his runner friend in his first half marathon with minimal training, how pissed he was that his wife who is a runner beat him when he was fat and lazy because he simply thought he should be better than everyone and says running a half marathon in 1:35 is “an ok time for a beginner” or some such shit. Not sure I want to continue reading it if he keeps up this attitude (or at least the attitude I’m interpreting from it).

ended up running the full 15k that was postponed for last week. went pretty well! i’m in florida for the holiday and it’s a good deal warmer than it is in charlotte, so that took an adjustment, but nothing too bad.

i could eat a whole pizza right now

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, early Happy New Year to the running community. For those in northern states stay strong during the next few months of bullshit weather lol

Going to try tinkering with my running for a few weeks. I’ve almost always gone simply based on feel and sped up when I wanted to and slowed down when I felt I needed to but I’ve been curiously trying to learn about aerobic and anaerobic zones or whatever and basically all of my runs - long slow runs, fast runs, short runs, hills, flat, Madison Marathon, etc. have been 75-80% in the anaerobic zone. Which seems to have positives but also seems to tire you out faster? Idk I can’t quite follow it all. So today I did a 4.5 mile run where I watched my heart rate BPM like a hawk and never let it get above 160 and it was… odd. I felt very slow and my time was just under 12 minutes a mile but there were times I was going faster with longer strides and was able to hover at 155 bpm. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow or in a week or two of doing this if I feel less exhausted or the same as how I usually ran.

tomorrow is a 9 mile slow run and will try it again but goddamn that’s gonna be like 2+ hours but I guess that’s ok since it’s supposed to be a slow long run and I’ve always tended to run those faster than I should.

anyone else pay attention to aerobic or anaerobic? My usual pace per mile hovers around 8:15-9:15 and I’m more than ok with that. I have little interest in getting faster so maybe I’m dabbling into things that only the professionals truly care about idk.
