Bad or not he makes pretty much everything he’s in watchable.

Men In Black is a legitimately good movie. I, Robot is not bad (its negative reputation is largely because of the admittedly bad CGI but the movie itself isn't bad). Those are my picks easily.

Will Smith is a talented guy with the most boring taste of any actor who can do whatever they want. Jennifer Aniston maybe? Outside of The Lost City of Z, Tom Holland’s projects also seemed pretty lifeless, but he’s young.

Independence Day is an American treasure you can all eat sand. MIB would be the other choice.

Smith's best film is Ali, which really doesn't compare to the heights of the other big stars.

Look we either get MCU blah or Will Smith types, I wish anyone but Margot and Anya could survive on charm alone nowadays

Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio are megastars that still make interesting stuff without having to be superheroes. Will Smith has turned down Boyz n the Hood, The Matrix, and Django Unchained, I think he’s just a boring movie star. I liked MIB as a kid but outside of Ali, his body of work is pretty barren.

Will Smith could call any director working today and offer to do their movie for scale and that director would probably jump at the opportunity. Smith doesn't seem to do it though.

I remember reading Will Smith studied the top grossing films of all time as he was coming up as an actor. That’s the sort of thing he seems to care about, not that someone like Cruise doesn’t, but even he worked with PTA and Kubrick and Spielberg.

His stuff in the 90s/00s was at least entertaining. The past decade has been miss after miss for him

Tom Cruise has absolutely made superhero movies, they're called the Mission: Impossible films and they rule

Mission: Impossible is a franchise developed pre-Phantom Menace, it’s adapted very well to the significant shift of the Blockbuster landscape post-MCU/Lucasfilm/Disney, but the films have remained pure action movies based on real stunts and real locations, they couldn’t feel more dissimilar to stuff like Endgame or Zack Snyder’s Justice League and their cloudy, dark CGI looks.

lol the quote was "Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio are megastars that still make interesting stuff without having to be superheroes". Tom Cruise has a whole franchise where he is essentially a superhero. A more "grounded" superhero (to the extent that anything he does in those movies can be considered "grounded") but it's a version of a superhero nonetheless. Nobody is talking about CGI here or whatever else.

And nobody is saying the M:I movies aren't better than the Marvel movies either lol. They are better. They just very clearly are superhero movies by another name. Much like many things on this site, I can't believe this is a controversial take.
