Just an fyi for anyone who is forgetting, Halo is literally still technically in Beta, with full release being later this week. As a newcomer to both Halo and the genre in general, i’m having a blast. I get that there’s obviously a lot of valid criticism, but it’s pretty evident that they’ve got a solid as hell foundation to build on. The rhetoric claiming this game to be an unsalvageable broken mess is just so dramatic, and so off base.

 

the word technically is doing a lot of work there. there'll be no meaningful changes between what launched and what's going to "come out of beta" next wednesday.

dmgw I am having a blast grinding ranked and the gameplay is perfect for all intents and purposes, but the offering is barebones compared to what we used to get, even compared with Halo 5.

 

I'm not at all saying that this release doesn't have flaws because it does. I'm saying that someone using the phrase "343 are unfit for Halo" is absurd. Putting Halo on such a pedestal is bizarre and treating 343 as if they need to pass some sort of gamer's idealistic prerequisites in order to handle such a precious franchise just comes off as one of the most cringe inducing things I've ever read.

cool man, let's revisit this conversation when they've managed to ship a halo that doesn't in same way or another piss off half of the fanbase. so far this is the closest they've come.
I think they've been a horrible stalwart for the franchise and they've made one bone headed decision after the next and haven't managed to ship a fully featured Halo game despite having literally all the time, budget and manpower in the world.

I mean everything I said was factual, we can pretend otherwise for the sake of discussion but I mean... you can disagree with my assessment, that they've been doing the franchise a disservice, but I feel like the facts speak for themselves.

I mean idunno. Mescalineeyes has a point. The actual gameplay for Infinite is fantastic. Everything else is borderline atrocious

 

I haven’t played Infinite but I will just say in general we need to stop normalizing shutting down criticism of game series when a new game comes out and is missing franchise-standard features or is less fully-featured than the game(s) that came before it. That’s not being “entitled” or whatever, that’s a legitimate criticism. It was the same thing with the Diamond/Pearl remakes not having the Platinum story content despite prior Pokémon remakes having their third games’ content incorporated.

People obviously go too far with the anger online though, of course. Death threats and all that are inexcusable. But it’s beyond fair to criticize a new product for having less than what came before it.

 

Yeah I haven’t played Halo since Reach and I realize it’s a Beta, but the fact that you can’t select playlists and it’s missing the most basic playlists is quite perplexing. It’s easy to see why people would be worried or question the state of the game as it is. The gameplay is super fun, but the lack of options and ability to customize the gameplay that existed in the franchise previously definitely takes away from the experience.

 

The good thing about Infinite is that the actual gameplay loop is fantastic. Best it's been in over a decade. So if/when they actually fix and add in all the features it should've had to begin with, the foundation is already there for a top tier FPS. But to say it's in a good state now is questionable at best

Okay i beat all 3 Dark Souls games where is my reward

 

Infinite is good but 343 have dropped the ball on so many occasions I had pretty much given up all hope and jumped ship

 

I played some Infinite last night, liked it but I’m just not really enjoying multiplayer FPS games anymore. Last one that I really enjoyed was R6S and even now it’s hard to get excited for a new season of that.

Anyways, finished GotG and it was a tremendous game. Not without its faults, but it didn’t overstay its welcome and stuck the landing with the ending.
