That's fair haha. I've never even seen the show.

My issue with Stranger Things is that it never breaks new ground and it never even comes close to transcending any of its homages. It didn't challenge any of the genres it borrowed from in any way. Its not even as good as any of them because its borrowing so much. It was fun and enjoyable because of all the references I could recall but it wasn't memorable for me.

  3. I can't binge watch Mad Men. I'm currently juggling Mad Men, Homeland, House of Cards, Fargo, The West Wing, and Penny Dreadful. As interested as I am in the first three, I can really only see myself binging the latter.

I'd read the article, but it said it had spoilers.

Currently doing the 100. Pretty good stuff so far. Not really groundbreaking plot wise but it's a nice spin on a genre that otherwise feels worn out.

Well said, was trying to find out the exact way to convey how I felt. Homages can only be good if they add to the source material/genre they're playing with.

With the 8 hours of show, I can really only recall a few key moments.

Well can't say I saw a sequel to this one coming.. If anything I figured a Rush Hour sequel would have been more likely. Not that I'm complaining!

Oh jeez I just got my Chinese actors confused. For some reason I thought Jackie Chan said he was done with martial arts movies, but it was Jet Li who said that. I'm a bad Asian.

Didn't Rush Hour already get its third movie?

genuinely curious as to what Kate Winslet is doing in this, Will makes sense because he also did Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happyness which I actually like but it's pretty hokey

A discussion about multi camera sitcoms would be fun. What were the best? what makes one good? why have they become passe in recent years? can they ever make a comeback?

That is one of those problems that is hard to solve. People are much more interested in the fantasy of fiction than stories that are about struggle or class. It affects even the most well-renowned shows; Kramer having a Manhattan apartment is played as a joke, but the other three characters all afford very spacious places even though they are not incredibly successful.

  20. Malcolm in the Middle was pretty good at displaying a family that was living quite below the middle class. I wish there were more series like that. I guess we've got The Middle as well, but I don't really watch that.

Regarding the conversation about blue-collar sitcoms - Roseanne. It may have gone on longer than it should've but the ending is perfection.

For shows depicting poor/lower middle class families: Shameless is the first one that comes to mind for me.
