Care to elaborate? How so? You think they're gonna be getting 10/11 win seasons on a consistent basis like they've been having jn the big 12?

Oklahoma's "ceiling" is not "Texas A&M success". A&M has never done anything special other than beat Bama twice in a decade. I just don't like that comparison. Oklahoma's ceiling is national power, annual championship contender. Their brand is bigger and better than A&M. Think Florida in the 90s. Or late 2000s. That's what the program's ceiling is.

I think it is fair to question the coach's ceiling though, but Oklahoma's ceiling as a program? Nah. They're a top 5 program at worst. I can't say that about A&M.

Dude. That does not make me a fan. I can say nice things about programs I hate. lol

Nice is one thing. Something so absurdly positive that you'd expect it to come from a fan is another.

You got me. With Alabama aside, I consider the top 5 college programs of all time to be Oklahoma, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and Notre Dame. I'll be honest with you - I hate Oklahoma the least out of that group. That makes me a super fan, I guess.

No it's just what you're saying isn't really matching reality. OU being a top program at worst can't be possible considering they literally aren't a top five program AT BEST. Definitely nowhere remotely near Florida in the 90s. They're dangerously close to going the way of the team that (hopefully) just missed the cut for Top 5 all time.

I’m a Cincy fan this year. Avenge the Knights 2017 season against the CFP!

Texas A&M: 18 conference titles; 3 national championships (last in the 1939); 16th most wins; 17th most bowl games; 2 Heisman winners; 18th most weeks in the AP poll

Oklahoma: 50 conference titles; 7 national championships (last in 2000), with about 11 unclaimed ones that some other teams would have claimed; 6th all time record; 4th most bowl games; 6th most wins; tied with Ohio State and Notre Dame for most Heisman winners; 3rd most weeks in the AP Poll of any team.

Texas A&M is good now, but historically hasn't always been great. They had one winning season from 1958 to 1978. Oklahoma has only had 11 sub .500 seasons ever. They're the model of consistency. If they aren't a top 5 program, they're definitely in the top 6 or 7.

Looks like a lot of the 2023 recruiting class is following Lincoln Riley though, so I'm not optimistic about their transition to the SEC

  13. “Riley is scared of the SEC” is such a weird criticism. He’s going to get paid more to live in a much nicer area of the country where he’ll have significantly less competition in recruiting and on the field. At USC he can have an equally good team as he’d have at Oklahoma, but have a much greater chance at getting into the playoffs and potentially win a national championship.

    Why wouldn’t he take it?

  14. Like, I’d rather have to beat someone like Alabama in the national championship than have to beat them in the regular season (and maybe again in the conference title game) just to have a chance at qualifying for the playoffs.

    The rivalry is back on

I also don’t know why “best of all time” would be your baseline — the kids making recruiting decisions weren’t alive for the 90s Gators. The Tebow years might barely make an impression, but you’re sitting at like a 10 year window of what makes an impression in terms of program prestige.

OU definitely could bomb their coaching replacement, struggle with a harder SOS, and drop down, but it seems ridiculous to say they don’t have the ceiling of a top 5 program when they literally are currently a top 5 program of past 10 years (not sure which two names you’d put alongside Alabama, Ohio St, and Clemson over OU for that honor). They’re still the best program in close proximity to the state of Texas and are a top 10 program by revenue already with that expected to increase with the move to the SEC to further support recruiting, facilities, etc

Nobody else will get this but between us growing up Thom was a Gamecocks fan and always called them the "real USC" and look at him now.

The real talk should be on how USC is the most overrated big program in the country. Before Pete Carroll got there, they'd won double digit games once since 1980 (1988).

USC is set up to be one of the top recruiting destinations. NIL in Los Angeles? C'mon.

I'll be pretty surprised if Riley fails.

Southern Cal will be a playoff contender nearly every year, especially with an expanded playoff.

We're in for some special football over the next decade...especially if Texas gets back on track.

USC, Michigan, and Texas being back just makes college football so much better.

This is a really important point that people gloss over. Powerhouse football being good is good for football.

Three 4-Star recruits from the 2022 class, two 5-Star recruits from the 2023 class, and one 4-Star recruit from the 2023 class have already de-committed from OU.

    Ouch

NIL for the powerhouses and an expanded playoff for more G5 Cinderella stories is good football
