I mean, I guess, but also streaming is the future of games

I sure hope streaming is never the norm for gaming. I already dislike that SE is releasing the entire Kingdom Hearts catalog on Switch but it’s exclusive to the cloud.

Do you automatically get access to the cloud with Switch? I probably know the answer but here is to hoping I am wrong.

Cloud saves? Only if you pay for their Gold

It most definitely will be. The last holdout wil be competitive gaming. It’s going to take several years still though.

I imagine within the next year there will be access to Game Pass on smart TV's, etc. With the other companies following closely behind. They are realizing there are millions of other people outside the plastic box.

I mean Microsoft and Sony have been working on cloud together since 2019. Makes sense for Sony to finally capitalize on it.

Cloud gaming is the future, it’s just in its infancy right now

  10. VR gaming was also the future. So maybe the future of the future is VR cloud gaming?

VR is better and more important than Cloud

Better is subjective but I believe cloud gaming is more important than VR.

Realistically though, they serve two different purposes in the industry. I feel like cloud is more important for distribution and making games more accessible to larger audiences. VR is more important for immersion and gameplay purposes.

I feel that cloud gaming is going to come to prominence faster and more widely than VR though. VR is going to have to target audiences and there are going to be people who won't want to (or can't) play games in VR.

There will be people that won't want to play via cloud either, but because it's a distribution mechanism, my point is that people eventually won't have a choice. You can choose not to play a VR game more easily than you can choose not to play a game via cloud if it's your sole point of entry.

VR games will be streamed just like any other game, so apples and oranges

I considered buying an Oculus at Costco when they were on sale but passed because realistically at this point its not worth the price tag for me. How much will I really play it? The games aren't quite there yet. More of gimmick at this point but I hope to see that turn the corner. Cloud on the other hand is definitely the future and that is coming quickly.

Is anyone clamoring for companies to dedicate more time to VR? Because I haven't seen a peep about it. No one cares about VR.

VR as we know it definitely isn’t the future. However, Valve is right when they say that what they learn from VR will be great for them in the gaming-via-the-chip-in-your-head-future.

  17. They made a VR version of Skyrim, right? I can't imagine a near future where a sequel to an IP that big is exclusively on VR

Microsoft/XBOX is not investing in VR so probably not...

I get the resistance, I buy CDs too, but it’s just a fact that streaming is going to completely take over video games like it does everything else

I remember a debate on this thread about physical vs. digital. Now it has progressed to consoles vs. cloud.

Shout out to anyone still holding it down with the physical but it is a dying breed.

I bought some physical games on Black Friday because there are way better deals than are available digitally and I forgot how annoying it is to have to switch discs. I can’t wait until the same kind of deals are available digitally.

Yeah I buy (well, if I buy a game at all that is, I don’t buy a lot or games anymore) physical a lot because it is cheaper

Every time I see a thread on NintendoLife that amounts to a crowd of people refusing to buy a game unless it's made available on physical, all I can think is there's going to be a lot of people dragged into the future kicking and screaming.
