excited to spin this one - the Mournful Congregation comparison from this thread has me pumped

 

Melodic, epic black metal in the vein of Dissection from members of Wayfarer and Blood Incantation.

 

"Great fun, great production, and just a warm and comfortable listen"

 

For a black metal release, that's actually a pretty spot-on description since it's a fun album that doesn't sound like it was recorded on a 4-track in a meth lab.

Metal may be my roots but we all got to branch out. I'm going to go see Charli XCX and will probably wear a Cattle Decapitation shirt.

 

Saw them at Fire in the Mountains before COVID and they were such a fun set. I will have to check out this new album, and yeah when I saw them they had a Dissection meets Immortal riffing style with some Emperor atmospherics.

 

It's awesome. I pre-ordered the vinyl blindly before listening to it because I loved their last EP so much. I'm also jealous you got to see them live in a setting like that.

I listened to that Rob Zombie song out of morbid curiosity and it was not as bad as I was expecting it to be. Grammys are still so confusing to me though.

 

Deftones and Mastodon hell yes

 

The solos on this Obscura album are nuts

 

Grammy are always sooooooo out of touch with the actual metal scene.

Dream Theatre will probably win it lmao

 

The metal nominations really are weak as hell. Pleased to see Deftones, Gojira and Mastodon up for things like these but I wouldn't say those are the best tracks from any of them, and Rob Zombie/Dream Theater being nominated is as good an admission as anything that they don't know enough metal.

It's the Grammys though, it doesn't matter. I'd give it to Gojira. Deftones are also up for Best Rock Performance with a better song so it'd be cool if they won that.

 

To be fair, the artists and/or their labels, management, etc. choose what to submit.

 

Ok I've got a cross country flight tomorrow. Give me your favorite metal album of the entire year so I can download it for the flight.

Probably a love it or hate it album. I've seen it described as "tricking goths into listening to Grief."

Dancy sludge with vocals straight out of Christian Death's Only Theatre of Pain.
