    The rivalry is back on

i like the 4 team playoff and I think it’s the best solution — with that said, regardless of the result, I think based off a 12 game schedule + conference championships, you can narrow based off of resumes who are the 2 (sometimes 3, very rarely 4) best teams.

one of those years, it was a weird one in the SEC where the SEC championship should have solved it, but Alabama lost a tiebreaker to make the championship and there wasn’t a H2H matchup between the two SEC championship participants, so that failsafe wasn’t there that would normally resolve itself in the championship round like it will this year

the other one, I think it was a little cheesy that OSU made it in general, I’d call OSU over Bama an upset and could have been content with just leaving them out based on their 12+1 resume, but they proved it by winning

Oregon going down could not have been more obvious.

At this point its either notre Dame or 1 loss big 12 team for the last spot (unless bama beats uga, then that settles that)

This is why I’m not sold on the firing, but I also don’t have any strong argument against doing so. I’d feel better if there was a strong pool of coaches and we were competing against LSU and USC to fill the role.

Notre Dame will get obliterated no doubt, but so would ou. Ok state would be fascinating (still blown out)

Their schedule might not be amazing but theres still enough meat to make them a totally fair 1 loss team. Wisconsin, Purdue, Virginia, North Carolina, va tech...and the whole schedule are all power teams. Unlike a lot of programs, they don't have any fcs teams and toledo/navy are the only non power teams (both programs traditionally not cake).

But would oklahoka state jump them with wins against ou and Baylor? Hmm. Maybe.

And don't forget cincy can 100% still lose to houston. Hell, @east Carolina won't be a lock.

Mullen’s behavioral issues are the reason his downfall was expedited. If the dude wasn’t such a buffoon whenever a microphone was in his face he’d get more time to fix his train wreck of a program.

    The rivalry is back on

I both get firing Mullen and love it as a UGA fan. That team is in a precarious position with SEC expansion probably making the East stronger starting in 2 years (+Bama/Auburn, -Mizzou?) and them not being a de facto top 2 team anymore in the years when they have the pieces together.

I think Mullen is probably better than most of the options they’ll end up with and the downside of a bad coach on this hiring is entering either the Auburn level of program where they do something good and then can’t hold it together and blow things up again (which honestly kinda feels like where they just committed to being after the Mullen firing) or the Tennessee level of program where they used to be good, expect to be good, but just aren’t again and again.

I assume the rationale is that they’re not 100% sold that Mullen is the guy, but also can’t afford to put it off another year and time their new coach growing pains with the SEC realignment. But unless they hit a home run with this hiring (and it doesn’t feel like the best year to try to), it looks pretty bleak for that program :)

Realllllly fucking hope Cincinnati gets the no.4 spot in the CFP poll today. Also if Cincinnati goes against OSU in the playoff I will be eternally grateful for a good new instate rivalry. Cheers!

Even if Cincinnati is #5 or #6 tonight, Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State and Ohio State vs. Michigan guarantees a couple losses for the teams in front of them.

Yeah no worries if you're a cincy fan. They control their destiny now. All they have is houston neutral and on the road east Carolina.

The only only only thing that could happen is Alabama wins and maybe maybe Oklahoma state jumps up to 4. But I doubt it

In the end, the only possible debate will be 1 loss Notre Dame vs 1 loss Oklahoma state (or Alabama wins sec title game, eliminating both)

Either way I feel bad for Cincy. Get left out and all their fans scream they stood a chance and got robbed or get to be #4 and get their skulls crushed in. What a great place to be!

We lost to a Georgia team who started 17 of the same starters by a last second field goal. Yeah, this team is much better but I don’t think we’ll get our skulls crushed in.
