This has been the most immediate Circa for me since BSN at least

Happy to see everyone mostly vibing with this. I'm looking forward to more weird little records now that I've digested it fully.

I'll never forget how disappointed I was when BSN finally came out after the INSANE hype of those sequence vids. It would take a lot at this point for me to turn my nose up at these guys after swallowing the BSN pill and happily living with it over a decade later. Im still excited to see the anniversary tour despite it all.

I view BSN as the ONE record that stands out from the rest.. I feel like Violent Waves was a step back towards the OLG sound/tones and then Descensus was them finding their honed in sound, then The Amulet feels like their most complete work since Juturna and OLG, imo.

I remember BSN initially being kinda weird and disappointing. At the time in 2010 or whatever, it felt like Circa had tried to end the mainstream with it. Idk, I adore it nowadays but I remember back then being somewhat disappointed.

How could it not be disappointing coming off what proved to have been two legendary predecessors? I felt the same way but still enjoyed it for what it was, and it could've gone from good to really good with less obnoxious production.

I get it. I personally loved both from the start, though it wouldn't even come close to what I got from their first two albums, I just usually try not to compare as much, so it wasn't a disappointment. Appendage as a bonus EP I relly enjoyed as well, I recall it was one of the last times listening to something for the first time at night on heapdhones where it just hit me with so many emotions I couldn't sleep later on. I mean, you get used to it it seems and it doesn't happen so often, saddly.

Man I have so much fun on here with y'all circle jerking and ranking, especially this band. It's really hard to put my finger on why, but circa has ranked comfortably as my favorite band since OLG was about to come out (despite the cringe of the passage of time and the larger scene whence they were born). In terms of my overall tastes in music morphing and twisiing as I get older, circa is always a constant. I don't really fuck with anything like them anymore at all, it's funny. I keep thinking I'll grow out of them like so many other bands, but I am just so engaged with each album cycle and subsequent tour.

Obviously, I talk mad shit about BSN all the time on here, but it's still a Circa Survive record, so take all the shade I throw with a grain of salt lol. I love this shit. When Anthony screams at a show, I'm 15 again.

    Anyways,

I’m in Philly for the first time and just realized Circa is from here. May try to seek out a record store in the area and scrounge around for some vinyl.

Back in the day I was a very causal juturna and OLG fan but BSN elevated them for me. These days I almost exclusively listen to juturna, OLG, and amulet. On a big circa kick I’ll add BSN as well but it’s hard for me to listen to the vocals and guitars on those first 2 and not just place em very firmly at the top.
