the new "girl at home" is FUCKING BADASS and i wish the rerecordings were more thoughtful reimaginings like this

I keep thinking that I hear a minor lyric change and then I realize that I’m just forgetful and have heard one hundred thousand songs in my life.

  4. hopefully people will tweet Taylor and say how FUCKING BADASS this new version of "girl at home" is so she will be more likely to re-imagine a few others on future re-recordings as well. maybe that track was an experiment to see if fans would be open to it or not. but this is what i had hoped these re-recordings would have actually been more like. i completely understand why the official album tracks are borderline carbon copies, but still...

Message in a Bottle sounds very Carly Rae Jepsen-y to me and I fucking love it.

  6. yes. very Kiss-era.

i wouldn't be surprised if CRJ ends up featured on a 1989 vault track, actually.

  7. "WANEGBT" is trending on Twitter this morning. Lots of memes that are criticizing the "weeEEE"s... bummer

  8. One of our friends is throwing a Red TV listening party tonight that I'm going to. I'm interested to see what little bits everyone there kinda stops and reacts to.

I was gonna say I think if she changed the album songs up too much she would cause a lot of backlash, especially when I would imagine the goal here is to convince her audience to eschew the originals entirely so she can make her money, but it seems like she managed to elicit plenty of backlash regardless. idk if it’s shifted any from early on yesterday but her subreddit seemed pretty displeased, as much or more than the most critical people here are.

  10. Red is like THE Taylor Swift albums to fans. So it makes sense why people are giving this one more backlash as their more emotionally invested in this one than Fearless, probably. 1989 will be the next one that gets a lot of criticism.

perhaps i haven’t listened to red recently enough but the instrumentals sound identical? is it just new singing?

oh ok "nothing new" is a collection of long lost devastating taylor swift lyrics from 2012, just what i wanted

I think it sticks out pretty significantly for one reason or another, and it sounds silly in the first and second chorus but I think it kinda works in the final chorus where the mix gets busier? idk, again I only listened once but that was my initial thought.

anyway, also want to shout out Nothing New, was worried I would think a Phoebe feature felt out of place in a Taylor song but before she even came on I remarked to my partner that I could already almost hear her there.

revisiting this album after the Fearless rerelease and Folklore/Evermore makes me realize how young she still was on Red. At the time it seemed like a much more mature record than Fearless and Speak Now but now it feels much closer to those than I originally thought.

As I've aged too I've also come around to really appreciate the more "immature" stuff like 22/Stay Stay Stay and most of Fearless. There's a lot of charm there.

"i bet you think about me," subject matter-wise, is "we are never getting back together" as a normal-ass country song and i find that SO refreshing

I think "Holy Ground" is the first TV on here I prefer but I've never been too attached to the original.

Totally agree. Somewhat ironic in that 22 is and has always been very near the top of my rankings on it.

It's also funny hearing the little production bits completely recreated here. I'm being a bit reductive but the sound of pop music in general really took a seismic leap between Red and 1989. Stuff from when I was in college and just out sounds pretty dated now.

That’s my all time favorite T Swift song, so the new version was never gonna stand a chance. It’s the song that made me go, “ok she’s for real for real”

Holy Ground was one that never really stood out to me terribly much and/or one I just heard less than some others, and is also one of the ones I specifically remember being overwhelmed by the quality of and getting goosebumps from it

It’s still so weird to me that basically the entire world knows All Too Well, like I don’t recall giving the whole public permission to read MY diary
