My record player is on top of a high bookshelf because I don't have room anywhere else. I can't even see the records spin when they play. That's the best part!

 

Walmart’s Black Friday vinyl sale is happening this Friday. Last year they advertised their exclusives being $15. People on Reddit found that their system in store marked all vinyl $15. People were buying $30+ records for $15. Might go check it out and see if it happens again this year.

 

When you say in-store system, you mean it was only happening if you went to the store to purchase? not online?

Yeah, only worked in stores. They put up $15 records online (that’s happening on Wednesday evening) but it wasn’t everything like what happened in the stores. Remember someone saying they bought Pink Floyd’s The Wall for $15 when it wasn’t advertised as being on sale.

People went to self checkout and purchased full priced records and got them for cheap.

I didn’t find this out until after I already went and purchased a few of the $15 records they advertised.

 

yes, but my primary issue is laziness. much easier to turn something on that's plugged in than having to change out and re-charge batteries.

 

Makes sense, especially if the batteries are tricky to remove!

i found three vinyls at the walmart by my job that i’d buy: foo fighters greatest hits, johnny cash live at acl, and new bullet for my valentine.. if this happens again this year i know where i’ll be spending my lunch break.

i mean, yes, but still... 500 copies of an album is still hogging space and time at the pressing plant too. and i think it's safe to assume all 500 of those will never be sold.

 

RE: CD discussion - CD quality is considered top tier from most "audiophiles" and I really wouldn't be surprised if having a high end CD player hooked up to your receiver becomes a thing the same way record players became cool again 10-15 years ago, especially if this vinyl pressing business continues to get harder and harder.

I legit have my old high school portable CD player hooked up to my sound system for when I want to listen to stuff on good speakers that isn't on Spotify or in my vinyl collection. no regrets.

 

Yeah I'm not saying anything groundbreaking, especially when this is basically on the front page of Cambridge's website, haha. I admit it, I'm tempted.
