Agreed. I also agree with the podcast and that the Pro could have never happened and people would be fine waiting for the PS 5.

A part of me thinks - follow me with this:

Sony wasn't planning to do a PS4 Pro. They heard rumblings of MS doing something, so they pushed up plans for upgraded console. Pushed to be first ones to market. I bet when Scorpio specs were leaking, they were uneasy. I bet E3 made them stop and go "Fuck....". I just don't understand why they would do this without feeling their hand was forced. It feels like the 4K is so half-assed in the Pro, like they wanted to check the 4K box as easily/quickly/cheaply as possible. The system seems to have almost no thought put into it. Like...it can't play fucking 4K Blu-Rays? MS announced two consoles at E3 - one that did everything BOTH consoles Sony just announced do and more, and one that will be a massive leap forward. What the fuck is Sony thinking?

Just feels like a really bad move, I would bet money that Sony is very nervous about Scorpio...

 

I think it was the opposite way around honestly. The rumours for Sony happened way earlier than the MS ones. I think Sony just wanted to put out a slightly more powerful version to support 4K as a way of supporting their TV's and then MS found out and decided to take the opportunity to make a much more powerful upgrade than Sony were planning.

 

Perhaps, I dunno. Either way, I feel like they got fucked on this move...




On another note - started some Payday 2 with brothers and have done a couple heists the last few nights. The game really is such a fucking great idea.

 

pretty sure rumours about ps4k have been around as long as rumours about ms doing away with generations. the slims were always going to come this year. no one expected ms to push the boat with their slim. scorpio gets it's advantage of being a year later, ps4p gets the advantage of being cheaper. sony could have easily gone toe to toe with ms in specs had they released it next year, but now they're not, but the will be selling the pro cheaper than scorpio is.

 

something that interests me about the Scorpio roll out is it seems a clear generational update, compared to pro. but ms seem to be pushing it as a mid gen upgrade. their E3 comms were a little confused, initially they were saying no one gets left behind, then it was there could be Scorpio exclusives if devs wished, then back to no one left behind. I wonder if in the next year they pivot Scorpio to the next xbox with full backward compatibility which, to me seems a much better use of the increase of power.

 

I will never touch Payday 2 as the devs are utter shits.

 

How would Scorpio and the idea of no more generations affect the PS5, though? No more Playstations, just continually update the 5?

Oh, I don't really know. Both are going the way of iterative machines. I would say that the numerical naming scheme is good for Sony as it can generate hype. I think it would be rather foolish to do away with.

You could buy a slim and get a better console at a cheaper price. That is, unless you are going for the 2TB.

That's even without putting Scorpio in the mix.

 

Bought The Witness a few days ago and what an awesome game. It's crazy how my girlfriend and I are playing and both have two lasers, but apparently in completely different areas

 

Isn't the Xbox 1 huge? Either way, it's a nice point.
