My school is doing Clue as their fall play and I'm watching the livestream and it's just reminding me of how much I love the movie Clue lol

 

The Narrative Around the ‘Eternals’ Reviews Is Doing More Harm than Good

 

Progressive film theories are far better at recognising shifts and trends in culture, stepping back and looking at what was influential to film makers, what was resonating with audiences and how those change over time.

Narrowing in on a single recently released film and deploying it to declare it or its audience good or bad is a fruitless perversion birthed by twitters insatious need for the hottest takes and self-righteous call outs

 

Nobody saw the movie Tesla, but it has some of the weirdest supporting character choices I have ever seen in a film that is otherwise playing it straight.

 

i think that's gonna be a good casting choice. i can already picture Leo playing that role really well.

 

I just found out Spike Lee directed a Son of Sam movie co written by Michael Imperioli. Has anyone seen it, and is it worth checking out?

 

I was trying to find it earlier in the year, but I couldn’t find any streaming or rental options so I never checked it out.

Good for her, she's a huge Star Wars fan and has talked in the past about how she'd love to make one. Happy to see her be successful and do what she wants with her own life and career. Can't imagine feeling any other way about that news!

I haven't seen the Eternals, but I like her other work so I'm into that.

 

It is remarkable that she can look at a series where multiple directors have been fired and an entire trilogy was redirected because of angry fans online and think that it is worth it. It isn't like she needs the money or can't get work.

 

The answer is that she just had a positive experience working with Kevin Feige on Eternals and trusts that he has enough clout at Disney to ensure that she gets to make the movie she wants to make (he does). Probably way less likely she agrees to do it if he wasn't the one producing it. Not that hard to see why she'd do it at all lol

whether you want to think she had a positive experience or not, it very clearly - through multiple confirmed sources and outlets - was a highly contentious production with multiple disagreements about the direction and editing of the movie, to the extent that marvel hasn’t had since edgar wright left ant-man.

the money must be real, real good

 

It's so funny how so many people (rightly) stopped calling indie musicians "sellouts" for signing to major labels but will lambast talented and respected independent or small-scale filmmakers for doing essentially the same thing. People get dunked on on this very site for even suggesting a band "sold out" these days, but here it's totally accepted. It's like we're back in 2001 criticizing Jimmy Eat World for signing to DreamWorks and making a pop-rock album lol

 

because the scales of those things are so wildly different and the difference in sound, often times, for music going from “indie label” to major was not actually that drastic. you cannot say the difference going from nomadland to the eternals didn’t completely shift her style of filmmaking. not even you can blindly love marvel that much.

not to mention the amount of money chloe made off nomadland, before “selling out,” was almost certainly exponentially more than any of the bands covered in dan ozzi’s sellout book made lol

 

If other studios see Marvel diversifying both in front of and behind the camera and still being successful wouldn't they want to follow suit or is that just wishful thinking on my part

 

I haven’t seen any of her films and I’m not shaming her, lol. The answer is just clearly money and that’s okay.
